About the Role
As an Engineering Manager at Hypha, you will lead a team responsible for building and improving a core product area while shaping the technical direction of the platform. This hands-on role involves guiding sprint planning, unblocking engineers, maintaining high engineering quality, and contributing directly to the codebase. You will design systems, review architecture decisions, and collaborate with your team to ship features powering Hypha's core product. The ideal candidate enables the team to do their best work by setting clear direction, creating fast feedback loops, removing obstacles, and fostering an environment for rapid, high-standard development.
Responsibilities
- Lead a team of engineers, setting priorities, running sprints, and owning delivery for your product area
- Write code, spending a meaningful portion of your time building features and reviewing code
- Hire and grow engineers, including conducting interviews, onboarding new team members, and providing regular feedback
- Own technical quality for your area, including architecture decisions, code review standards, and testing practices
- Partner with product and design to shape the roadmap and define team deliverables
- Identify and remove blockers to prevent team slowdowns
- Collaborate with the Head of Engineering on cross-team initiatives, processes, and engineering culture
Requirements
- Proven engineering management experience, including running sprints, setting expectations, giving direct feedback, and aiding professional growth
- Experience hiring engineers and building teams
- Hands-on technical ability, including system design, production TypeScript, and sound architectural decision-making
- Product orientation, focusing on user outcomes and balancing speed, scope, and quality
- Operational rigor, with organization, follow-through, and structured, non-bureaucratic processes
- AI fluency, daily use of AI coding tools, and ability to help team adopt effective AI workflows
- Experience managing in a fast-growing startup environment
- Experience with Next.js, Supabase, PostgreSQL, and Inngest stack
- Background in AI/ML product development
- Experience scaling a team through rapid hiring
