About the Role
The Service Tech / Mechanic works with guidance from shop foreman/working foreman in shop and/or field. Responsibilities include performing basic diagnostics, mechanical, and hydraulic repairs, understanding service manuals, and performing general equipment services like oil and filter changes. The role also involves prepping machines for delivery (PDI's) and conducting clean and check services, requiring the ability to collaborate with other technicians.
Responsibilities
- Consult with customers to gather information on equipment history, problems, and maintenance needs.
- Identify mechanical issues using visual inspection and diagnostic equipment.
- Perform routine maintenance tasks such as oil changes, lubrication, and tire rotation.
- Test specific parts and systems to ensure proper operation.
- Examine critical parts and systems using standard checklists.
- Plan repairs, estimate completion times and costs for customers.
- Perform routine and preventative maintenance, including oil changes and tune-ups.
- Repair or replace malfunctioning parts and systems.
- Conduct post-repair testing and diagnostics.
- Test drive equipment to confirm proper operation and resolution of issues.
- Prioritize jobs and maintain a clean, safe, and organized maintenance shop.
- Manage record keeping and documentation.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Extensive knowledge of heavy equipment maintenance and repair.
- Ability to diagnose and troubleshoot equipment issues using diagnostic tools and software.
- Experience with maintenance and repair of engines, transmissions, hydraulic systems, and electrical systems on heavy equipment.
- Knowledge of safety procedures and regulations for heavy equipment.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to visually diagnose mechanical issues.
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and schematics.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Physical stamina and strength to lift heavy parts and equipment.
- Availability to work flexible hours and weekends.
- Ability to read work orders.
- Ability to perform repairs in a timely fashion.
