About the Role

RVA is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to work on projects related to water distribution systems and industrial/institutional electrical infrastructure, including new facility design and existing system optimization.

Responsibilities

  • Provide project engineering and technical expertise on the design of industrial power distribution systems (44kV to 120V), including load analysis, Hydro supply sizing, substation design, and underground duct banks.
  • Select and size standby power supplies, including Diesel and Gas generators.
  • Design Switchgear, Switchboard, Motor Control Centers, and distribution panels.
  • Design lighting systems, including fixtures, controls, lighting transformers, and lighting panels.
  • Create Control Schematics for motor starters, including Direct-on-line starters, variable frequency drives, or soft starters.
  • Supervise CAD operators for the preparation of design drawings using Revit and/or AutoCAD.
  • Conduct Power System Studies and Power Quality Studies.
  • Perform site visits for electrical data gathering, condition assessment, and field inspections.
  • Collaborate with project managers and other disciplines to plan and prepare construction drawings.
  • Manage Electrical Engineering projects, including scope, schedule, and budget, and client relationships.
  • Participate in studies, assessments, modeling, preliminary and detailed design, cost estimates, specifications, contract documents, tendering, and contract administration.
  • Provide senior review and professional authentication of memos, reports, drawings, and other engineering documents.
  • Prepare proposals and reports.
  • Liaise with clients, consultants, regulatory agencies, utility companies, and contractors.
  • Lead and participate in Business Development initiatives.
  • Plan projects, develop scopes of work, cost estimates, project plans, schedules, and deliverables.
  • Work closely with engineers, designers, drafting, and support staff.
  • Mentor and coach project teams, including technical and field staff.
  • Supervise junior engineers, technologists, and designers.

Requirements

  • A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • 15 plus years of progressive experience in the industry, with at least 10 years in a consultancy.
  • P.Eng., or eligibility for registration in Ontario.
  • Possess a strong ability to develop and maintain positive relationships with staff and clients.
  • Experience or aptitude for meeting timelines and budgets, proposal writing, client development, and other consulting skills.
  • Proven capabilities in writing reports and other technical documents.
  • Familiar with local design and construction standards and requirements for permits and approvals.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Good interpersonal skills and ability to work in a collaborative, team environment.
  • Extensive experience providing strategic advisory services related to municipal engineering projects and clients is required.
