About the Role
A Toronto-based family seeks a Head Caretaker and Team Lead to serve as the senior practitioner for their twin boys. This hands-on role involves daily interaction with the children and leadership of a junior caretaking team within a fully staffed household. The ideal candidate will have a deep, fluent understanding and application of RIE and Pikler practices, mirroring the family's established approach.
Responsibilities
- Provide direct hands-on care for the boys, including feeding, dressing, sleep transitions, outings, emotional support, and daily activities.
- Lead, manage, and develop junior caretakers by overseeing schedules, setting standards, onboarding, and modeling best practices.
- Ensure consistency across the team regarding RIE/Pikler practice, sleep, food, transitions, and communication norms.
- Communicate directly with principals and senior household leadership about operational status and areas needing attention.
- Provide sole-charge coverage when principals travel for up to a week.
- Offer senior input on family decisions impacting the boys, such as travel and relocation logistics, school choices, and transitions.
- Travel with the family between residences and on periodic international trips.
- Assist with adjacent tasks as needed, such as light meal preparation and child-related errands.
Requirements
- Must have led a children's care team (e.g., head nanny, daycare director, ECE program lead) and enjoy leadership.
- Must have a passion for hands-on caregiving, viewing each interaction as a moment of connection.
- Requires deep RIE and/or Pikler practice; formal training is strongly preferred.
- Prior experience in fully staffed households and comfort working closely with hands-on parents.
- Experience working within a high-trust caregiving team environment.
- Must maintain clear, healthy professional boundaries and communicate concerns directly upward.
- Must be sole-charge ready, confident in managing children's care for up to a week without principals.
- Must possess a driver's license.
- Must provide senior input on family decisions affecting the boys.
- Must be calm, grounded, and adaptable to household energy.
- Must be comfortable working within a detail-oriented, systems-driven household structure.
- Must be comfortable signing an NDA and practicing discretion.
- Valid U.S. Passport, Green Card, or Employment Authorization Card (EAC) required.
- Must be comfortable with a live-out setup; separate accommodation provided when needed.
- Driver's license required.
