About the Role
Diligent builds helpful robots that work safely and autonomously in real-world environments. As a Fleet Engineer, you will own the reliability and continuous improvement of our deployed robotic fleet, leading hands-on investigations into failures across various hardware and software subsystems. You will combine remote data analysis with lab-based failure analysis, turning field data into actionable insights and driving corrective actions.
Responsibilities
- Lead triage and bench/lab failure analysis across mobile base, charging/docking, motion and power, connectivity, and sensor hardware.
- Diagnose failures from component to system level using standard methodologies.
- Analyze fleet data and logs to define problem statements, surface trends, and validate hypotheses.
- Turn field-technician reports into problem statements and own escalated issues as part of an on-call rotation.
- Drive short- and long-term fixes with engineering, operations, and product teams, including supplier corrective actions.
- Build fixtures, instrumentation, and bench test setups to accelerate debug workflows.
- Document debugging procedures and root-cause findings.
- Contribute to fleet reliability standards.
- Raise the team's investigative rigor and mentor junior members over time.
Requirements
- Hands-on electrical debugging experience, including schematics, multimeter/oscilloscope use, and fault isolation.
- Hands-on mechanical debugging experience, including understanding mechanisms, tolerances, and reading mechanical drawings.
- Hypothesis-driven, quantitative debugging skills, including framing problems, designing tests, and reasoning about data.
- Experience with system log analysis to reconstruct events and isolate failures.
- End-to-end versatility and ability to conduct investigations independently.
- 3+ years in robotics, autonomous vehicles, or complex electro-mechanical systems, or an adjacent field.
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Mechatronics, Robotics, or a related engineering field.
