About the Role
Larkin Street Youth Services is the largest provider of housing and services to homeless youth in the Bay Area. This role is crucial in providing daily meals and support to youth, while also assisting them in accessing program services. Working here means making a real difference in the lives of young people experiencing homelessness.
Responsibilities
- Purchase food and kitchen equipment.
- Complete weekly kitchen inventory according to weekly menu.
- Prepare weekly menus and update daily as needed, keeping accurate records.
- Post daily menu for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, documenting food served and completing food temperature logs.
- Complete daily sanitation procedures, following Department of Public Health and OSHA guidelines.
- Prepare daily nutritious breakfasts and lunches.
- Ensure compliance with all licensing, health department, and applicable regulations regarding food and kitchen.
- Adhere strictly to program food and equipment budgets.
- Responsible for meal preparation daily and ensuring documented communication is posted, shared, and sent to the team for weekend meal service.
- Responsible for preparing and serving meals and clean up.
- Provide trainings to program staff on safe food handling, menu planning, and nutrition.
- Hold regular cooking groups for youth.
- Ensure the maintenance of a safe and clean physical kitchen environment.
- Support program services within the milieu, including crisis intervention and maintaining program safety.
- Contribute towards the care and welfare of staff and clients.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Hold a Valid Food Handlers Certification and/or earn and maintain this certification through employment.
- Experience planning, preparing, and coordinating meals for groups of people.
- Experience in kitchen management, including managing budgets and ordering supplies.
- Embody values and core strategies: Client-Centered, Trauma Informed Care, Restorative Practices, Harm Reduction, Non-Violent Crisis Intervention, Motivational Interviewing, Cultural Humility.
- Some social services and/or direct-service experience.
- Experience working in drop-in services, shelter, transitional, and/or permanent supportive housing programs is a plus.
- Excited to serve Transitional Aged Youth (TAY), aged 18 to 25 of diverse backgrounds.
- Thrive in an independent and autonomous working environment; be a self-starter and team player.

- +$1.50 for bilingual incentive pay
