About the Role
The Arc Welder CBS will perform all welding operations for rail vehicle manufacturing, operating various welding machines and possessing extensive knowledge of material properties and welding equipment.
Responsibilities
- Perform all welding operations for rail vehicle manufacturing.
- Operate all welding machines including GMAW, GTAW, and Resistance Spot Welders.
- Set up welding machines with minimal supervision.
- Demonstrate working knowledge of material properties, methods, and basic set-up and operation of welding equipment and hand tools.
- Read blueprints or work instructions, set up jigs and fixtures, and comprehend welding symbols and sequences.
- Safely use a variety of hand and power tools.
- Work in a safe manner compliant with all Alstom Zero Deviation Procedures and EHS regulations.
- Weld different types of materials (e.g., carbon steel, stainless steel, aluminum) and pass applicable welder evaluation Level A tests.
- Communicate with customers, Engineering, and Quality departments regarding design or material changes.
- Be adaptable and maintain a clean working environment.
- Train and oversee less experienced welders.
- Assist in new process development and troubleshooting.
- Utilize digital technology in daily work responsibilities.
- Obtain or possess external certifications AWS/ANST or equivalent.
- Inspect arc or spot welded weldments and perform dimensional measurements.
- Demonstrate working knowledge in other welding processes such as SMAW & FCAW.
- Demonstrate knowledge and application of post-weld finishing technology and tools.
- Possess acceptable hand/eye coordination and pass visual acuity test.
- Demonstrate working knowledge of non-destructive testing (e.g., dye-penetrant, magnetic particle) or equivalent certification.
- Perform other responsibilities as assigned by supervisor/manager.
Requirements
- High School Diploma, 2-year vocational degree, or equivalent welding certificate with experience.
- Over 8 years of experience required.
- Proficiency with automatic/hand operated burning equipment.
- Expertise in welding processes and machines GMAW / GTAW / RSW.
- Ability to read blueprints and understand weld symbols.
- Skilled in using hand and power tools.
- Adaptability, customer focus, and ability to accept and offer feedback.
- Experience with fabrication and application of jigs and mechanical principles.
- Ability to follow instructions and order of operations with strong attention to detail.
