About the Role

PayPal is seeking a Sr Software Engineer to collaborate with engineers and managers to define and refine requirements for user stories/tasks on the scrum board. The role involves developing solutions that meet specified requirements, writing clean, maintainable code, and conducting testing. You will deploy periodic releases, monitor application performance, and collaborate within cross-functional teams to diagnose and prioritize bug fixes.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with engineers and managers to define and refine requirements for user stories/tasks on the scrum board, utilizing Jira by Atlassian for agile lifecycle management.
  • Develop solutions that meet specified requirements, focusing on design efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Write clean, maintainable code to implement solutions, conducting both manual and automated testing.
  • Deploy periodic releases and monitor application performance and traffic to identify and address potential issues and customer interaction failures.
  • Collaborate within cross-functional teams, participating in meetings to diagnose and prioritize bug fixes and production defects.
  • Contribute to documentation on features, designs, discoveries, and platform knowledge in Confluence Cloud by Atlassian.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree, or foreign equivalent, in Computer Science, Engineering, or a closely related field plus two years of experience in the job offered or a related occupation.
  • Employer will accept a Bachelor’s degree, or foreign equivalent, in Computer Science, Engineering or a closely related field plus five years of experience in the job offered or a related occupation.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship.

Skills

  • Developing and maintaining web applications using JavaScript, Node.js and JavaScript tooling (1 year)
  • Debugging issues and developing features for enterprise Java applications built using the Spring Framework (2 years)
  • Writing code to build and consume REST APIs based on OpenAPI specifications (2 years)
  • Writing Unix shell commands and scripts to build automation tools to aid software development and testing (2 years)
  • Maintaining software projects using Git for version control and package management tools like NPM, Maven and JFrog Artifactory (2 years)
  • Building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines using Jenkins (2 years)
  • Maintaining good code quality using static analysis tools like Sonar (2 years)
  • Monitoring software system health using observability tools like Splunk adhering to OpenTelemetry standards (2 years)
  • Writing and refactoring code using the principles and techniques of the Object-Oriented Design paradigm (2 years)
  • Designing and implementing features for robust, scalable & fault-tolerant distributed software systems and maintaining them (2 years)
  • Utilize a variety of tools and frameworks including JavaScript, Node.js, Express.js, Kraken.js, Apollo GraphQL, Visual Studio Code, GitHub, and Jenkins.
  • Utilize observability tools such as Splunk, DataDog, and Kibana.
