About the Role
This internal finance role supports the day-to-day financial operations for Focus Partners Australia and Escala. Working closely with Senior Accountants, this position is key to delivering accurate financial processing, maintaining financial controls, and supporting month-end activities for both businesses. The role offers hands-on experience in accounts payable, receivable, and transactional finance, contributing to an efficient Finance function.
Responsibilities
- Enter supplier invoices and bills into Xero accurately and in a timely manner.
- Prepare and process weekly accounts payable payment runs.
- Monitor outstanding invoices and follow up on discrepancies.
- Review employee expense claims, ensuring compliance and completeness.
- Follow up with employees for missing receipts or documentation.
- Prepare monthly expense reporting.
- Support debtor management and collections (primarily accounting invoices).
- Monitor aged receivables and follow up with internal teams or clients as required.
- Assist with allocation of receipts and reconciliation of AR balance.
- Perform daily saving and coding of bank transactions for Commpay processing.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date banking records.
- Complete bank reconciliations in Xero.
- Prepare weekly Escala bank transaction reports.
- Prepare and process internal invoicing (e.g. service fees, salary on-charges, training costs).
- Support intercompany transactions across Focus Partners Australia and Escala.
- Ensure accuracy and consistency in internal cost allocations.
- Assist with month-end processes, including reconciliations and data preparation.
- Save and organise finance documentation (e.g. bank statements, commission statements).
- Support preparation of working papers and reports.
- Ensure financial records are complete, accurate, and audit-ready.
- Assist with other finance and reporting activities (e.g. invoicing, system updates, revenue tracking) as required.
- Provide responsive support to internal stakeholders across both businesses.
- Assist the broader Finance team with ad hoc tasks as required.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related discipline.
- 2+ years’ experience in public practice or a similar finance, accounts, or assistant accountant role.
- Familiarity with accounts payable, receivable, and bank reconciliations.
- Intermediate Excel skills.
- Experience using Xero (or similar accounting software).
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Good organisational skills and ability to manage competing priorities.
- Confident communicator with a proactive approach to follow-ups.
