About the Role
This position leads the organization’s budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis processes, delivering timely, accurate, and insightful financial information to support strategic and operational decisions. The role drives continuous improvement in financial management and reporting through the development and implementation of innovative tools, processes, and best practices. A major focus is overseeing the implementation and adoption of the organization’s new budgeting and forecasting platform, OneStream, planned for 2026.
Responsibilities
- Lead the CNIB’s Financial planning and reporting process, prepare monthly and quarterly Financial Reporting Packages tailored to different stakeholder groups.
- Present financial information to the Executive Leadership Team with support analysis and recommendations.
- Lead budgeting process, including data collection, evaluation, and validation.
- Assist in financial forecasting to provide insights into future financial performance.
- Play a key role in the development of a 3-year Budget and Strategy.
- Analyze current performance using financial metrics and key performance indicators (KPIs).
- Identify and quantify changes needed to improve KPI performance, working from summary-level metrics down to detailed transaction data.
- Improve financial reporting through more accessible ways, adapting information using innovative technology and dashboards.
- Review monthly results and explain variance to budget or revised forecast to ensure departments stay on track with spending, revenue and/or fundraising targets.
- Lead, coach, and mentor FP&A staff, fostering a collaborative and high-performing team.
- Set priorities, allocate work, and support professional development of team members.
- Assist the operational team with month-end duties to ensure a smooth financial close process.
- Support audit and internal review processes as they relate to planning, forecasting, and financial analysis.
- Oversee the implementation of OneStream as the organization’s budgeting and forecasting tool.
- Manage FP&A staff participating in the implementation, ensuring deliverables, timelines, and data quality are met.
- Lead the transition from the current processes using the NetSuite Planning and Budgeting tool to OneStream, ensuring adoption and sustainability post-implementation.
- Drive standardization and best practices enabled by the new financial planning system, identify opportunities to streamline and enhance budgeting, forecasting, and reporting processes.
- Perform ad-hoc analysis, projects and other assignments as required.
Requirements
- Strong knowledge of Canadian accounting standards and principles, including statutory requirements for not‑for‑profit and charitable organizations.
- Minimum of five (5) years of progressive experience in financial planning and analysis, management reporting, or related finance roles.
- Solid understanding of the relationship between internal controls, business processes, and financial statements.
- Advanced analytical, strategic‑thinking, and business planning skills, with the ability to translate complex data into meaningful insights.
- Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and adapt effectively in a dynamic, fast‑paced environment.
- Effective problem‑solving and critical‑thinking skills, with a proactive and solution‑oriented approach.
- Willingness to work flexible hours.
- Willingness to support month-end on a tight schedule.
- Willingness to travel to any other CNIB office, participate in special projects and other related as required.
Skills
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including Pivot Tables, Power Query, Power Pivot, macros, and VBA.
- Experience using business intelligence and data visualization tools, such as Power BI and/or Tableau.
- OneStream experience is a strong asset.
- Hands‑on experience with NetSuite and SAP Concur considered an asset.
- Well‑developed interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to present complex financial information clearly and concisely to diverse audiences.
- Strong relationship‑building skills with demonstrated success collaborating across teams and with internal and external stakeholders.
- Demonstrated leadership and people‑management capabilities, including the ability to mentor, coach, and inspire teams.
