About the Role
This position is responsible for supporting all aspects of Hyundai Capital Canada Group Corporate income and Indirect tax reporting and compliance. The incumbent will provide tax advice on new products and programs, implement financial controls, manage tax filings, and assist with tax initiatives and defense of corporate policies.
Responsibilities
- Analyze and report data for Canadian entities for indirect tax compliance reporting, withholding tax returns and annual statistics returns.
- Perform first-level review of monthly tax calculations and file federal and provincial indirect tax returns, including SLFI returns.
- Collaborate cross-functionally to ensure internal systems requirements are met for timely filing and accurate tax reporting.
- Prepare Canadian quarterly income tax provision computations and reconciliations, including current and deferred tax analysis.
- Monitor new general ledger accounts and document book and tax treatment.
- Analyze and interpret tax treatment for financial statement reporting, statutory reporting, and internal management reporting.
- Manage tax audits and liaise with external tax/legal advisors to defend Hyundai Capital Tax position, including documenting tax due diligence.
- Manage domestic and provincial income and indirect tax examinations, including gathering and analyzing data in response to Information Document Requests.
- Assist with the development of Tax Research and special projects to lower the effective tax rate and optimize cash tax flow for Hyundai Canada group.
- Assist in the development of transfer pricing methodology supporting the operating model for functions performed by and benefits received by the Capital Canada Group.
- Collaborate with Legal to develop intercompany service agreements and oversee transfer pricing study and domestic intra-group transactions.
Requirements
- Minimum 5 years of relevant work experience in Income tax / Indirect tax.
- Captive financing business knowledge with a focus on securitization transactions and their implication on accounting and tax is an asset.
- Indirect tax business knowledge with a focus on identification of the taxable status of the underlying supply is an asset.
Skills
- Broad technical and operational knowledge in corporate income tax, indirect tax and other environmental levies.
- Strong knowledge of income tax provisioning and related financial statement disclosures for IFRS.
- Ability to research complex tax issues and provide reasonable basis for tax positions to support business initiatives.
- Ability to take the lead on the management of Government tax audits.
- Excellent personal computer skills.
- Familiarity with tax preparation software and tax research engines.
- Strong skills with Microsoft Excel.
- Strong analytical and organizational skills.
- Problem solver with strong decision-making ability.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Ability to establish a high level of credibility with all levels of internal operations and external clients.
