About the Role

LRI Engineering Inc. is seeking a Sprinkler Designer/Engineer to join their team in downtown Toronto. This role involves applying Canadian codes and standards to the design and installation of fire sprinkler systems for various projects, from small renovations to complex commercial and high-rise facilities.

Responsibilities

  • Apply Canadian provincial and national Building and Fire Codes, CAN/ULC, NFPA standards, and best practice guidelines related to fire sprinkler system design and installation.
  • Prepare project budgets and proposals, managing project staffing, profitability, and timelines.
  • Undertake retrofit and design projects, including site reviews and assessment of fire sprinkler systems in medium and large complexes.
  • Conduct site visits to gather data on existing conditions, review construction, review shop drawings, attend tests, and commission systems.
  • Provide hydraulic calculations, pipe sizing, drawings, and specifications.
  • Work on staged installation of system replacements to ensure continued operation during construction.
  • Prepare sprinkler specifications and tender documents, overseeing installation for contractor compliance.
  • Attend construction and pre-construction site meetings.
  • Develop Alternative Solutions and prepare written reports with cost estimates.
  • Assess performance of existing sprinkler, standpipe, fire water pumps, and special suppression systems, selecting cost-effective solutions.
  • Support clients by advising on the application of Codes and standards.
  • Attend meetings with Clients and Authorities Having Jurisdiction.

Requirements

  • University Degree, preferably in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Minimum 5 years of work experience designing new and existing fire sprinkler systems.
  • Excellent knowledge of OBC, OFC, and NFPA standards.
  • Experience with site project management, tender documents, and cost estimation.
  • Good analytical and organizational skills; attention to detail; and time management skills.
  • Excellent communication and client relationship management skills.
  • Self-driven and resourceful with the ability to work well independently and interact with other stakeholders.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
