About the Role

Reporting to the Operations Manager, this critical role will work up to 29 hours per week, driving established routes to collect donated clothing and household items from customers’ homes and charity donation bins, and deliver these items to Corporate Partners and storage facilities.

Responsibilities

• Understand and promote the mission of the National Diabetes Trust to the general public and volunteers.
• Possess thorough knowledge of organization goals, objectives, services, programs, and organizational structure.
• Operate vehicles in compliance with applicable laws and regulations, safely and responsibly.
• Conduct pre and post trip inspections.
• Complete and submit appropriate paperwork daily.
• Complete and submit Hours-of-Service Logs and associated paperwork daily.
• Carry proof of valid driver’s license, valid plate permit registration, Commercial Vehicle Operator Registration/National Safety Code Registration documentation, and associated vehicle inspection and Hours of Service documentation.
• Check in with dispatch at the beginning, mid-day, and end of scheduled route.
• Provide an appropriate message card to each donor.
• Complete and properly log all assigned pickups.
• Unload merchandise as instructed.
• Return all equipment to the office at the end of each day.
• Report route discrepancies with dispatch.
• Ensure only authorized personnel ride inside the truck.
• Participate in all required driving-related NDT education, initiatives, directives, and procedures.
• Perform additional duties as required to ensure effective Operations function.

Requirements

• Grade 12 Education or equivalent experience.
• Ability to read maps.
• Ability to handle 10-50 lbs. loads.
• Ability to drive a 3-Ton (16 foot) straight truck.
• Strong organizational skills.
• Ability to map routes for efficient pickup.
• Ability to project a positive, business-like image to the public.
• Ability to communicate effectively with a wide variety of people.
• Ability to provide calm assistance to upset clients.
• Ability to maintain a public relations attitude even during stressful situations.
• Ability to understand and follow written or verbal instructions.
• Good command of the English language.
• Superior customer service skills.
• Must have Full Class 5 and / or G license or higher, passenger car or light truck.
• Must have a minimum of 5 years actual driving experience at the required level (2 years if the driver has received professional commercial vehicle training).
• Must have a clean driver abstract, less than 21 days old, with no violations or accidents within the last 3 years.
• Must be legally eligible to work in Canada.
• Must have a valid work permit or study permit if applicable.
