About the Role
Provide care for patients according to physician or health practitioner instructions. Maintain a positive, empathetic, and professional attitude, acknowledging and resolving patient complaints while prioritizing patient safety.
Responsibilities
- Ensure patient well-being by providing a positive, supportive, and structured environment.
- Conduct safety checks and ensure supervision at 15-minute intervals or as per individualized guidelines.
- Document timely, accurate, and appropriate clinical information in patient medical records.
- Assist in maintaining a safe, secure, and comfortable environment for patients, significant others, and staff.
- Monitor patient safety through timely completion of required rounds, ensuring patient rooms are clean and uncluttered.
- May obtain patient vital signs, height, and weight as assigned and document accurately.
- Promptly identify self to patients and visitors and respond quickly to patient requests.
- Engage patients in activities and interactions designed to encourage achievement of treatment goals.
- Respond to distressed patients in a non-threatening manner and attempt to understand the source of distress.
- Apply de-escalation techniques to manage patient emotions, behavior, and participation in treatment.
- Assist with seclusion and restraint when necessary.
- Provide safety and increase coping skills of patients as part of the multidisciplinary team.
- Assist in developing strategies to help patients achieve maximum independence.
- Monitor behavioral improvements and reinforce these behaviors.
- Report changes and responses to treatment by communicating with the team; report significant changes to the nurse immediately.
- Reinforce skills patients learn from nurses, physicians, and therapists that promote improved physical and mental wellness.
- Oversee or assist patients with activities of daily living, including toileting, bathing, dressing, grooming, oral hygiene, meals, snacks, hydration, and changing bed linens.
- Assist with admissions and discharges.
- Lead or co-lead individual or group sessions as part of specific recreational or therapeutic procedures.
- Participate in rehabilitation and treatment programs.
- Teach strategies to promote patient wellness and independence.
- Provide transportation for patients or coordinate transportation with appropriate staff.
- Exhibit quality of work through accuracy, neatness, and timeliness.
- Adhere to work schedule and maintain overall attendance.
- Perform other functions and tasks as assigned.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Six months experience as a BHA1 preferred.
- Six months or more experience working with the specific population of the facility preferred.
Skills
- CPR certification
- De-escalation certification
- Restraint certification
- First aid certification may be required
Experience Level
