About the Role

The Canadian Customs Analyst plays a key role within Cargill's Global Trade Compliance (GTC) function, executing customs compliance activities for a diverse customer and stakeholder base in Canada and supporting US GTC and cross-border operations. This role involves working with internal business units to manage risk, leverage customs opportunities, develop control frameworks, contribute to government inquiries, and provide operational mentorship and training. You will also develop and support moderately complex customs solutions and provide advisory and operational excellence support to ensure import/export compliance.

Responsibilities

Implements, maintains, and supports the development of moderately complex customs compliance tasks and participates in related projects.
Provides technical guidance on classifications, preferential and non-preferential origin, and valuation to global trade operation and compliance teams, adapting to regulatory changes.
Applies recommendations on local and regional technical and regulatory interpretations, including classifications, country of origin determinations, valuations, and regulated product flows.
Collaborates with global and regional partners and business leaders to implement and optimize global customs strategies.
Conducts import and export risk assessments and provides strategy and planning support for business units involved in import and export activities.
Retrieves and analyzes data for moderate risk audits, identifying compliant customs data and supporting senior team members.
Collaborates with legal counsel and customs authorities to stay informed on regional trade compliance operations, data management systems, and processes.
Supports the design and implementation of training programs on customs compliance requirements and standard methodologies.

Requirements

Diploma/certificate or bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent experience.
Minimum of 2 years of relevant work experience (typically reflects 3 years or more).
Must be legally entitled to work for Cargill in Canada.
Technical knowledge of classification, origin determination, and customs valuation.
Demonstrated customs compliance experience, preferably within the food industry or with a Big Four accounting firm, consultancy, major law firm, or multinational company.
Prior experience designing and implementing complex trade compliance solutions with moderate to minimal support from leadership.
Ability to balance detail orientation with big picture judgment while delivering practical solutions with strong supply chain business acumen.
Proactively drives problem resolution through root cause analysis and provides suggestions for sustainable corrective and preventive actions.
Detailed knowledge of preferential origin programs, HTS classification, and customs valuation (with an emphasis on conducting related party valuation studies) and risk management design.
Professional certification and/or equivalent experience.
