About the Role

Estes, a leading LTL freight carrier since 1931, offers drivers in-cab ergonomics and technology focused on driver comfort and ELD compliance. Line Haul Extraboard Drivers are over the road for approximately 5 days between home time, moving freight within the Estes network. Responsibilities

  • Operate all types of equipment for safety functions, including manual transmission and tire chaining, in all terrains and conditions.
  • Safely operate a tractor/trailer in accordance with Company, Federal, State, and Local laws, including FMCSA regulations.
  • Adhere to all FMCSA requirements for Commercial Driver’s License holders.
  • Maintain records required for compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Comply with all requirements for safe and legal transportation of hazardous materials.
  • Ensure security of equipment and cargo.
  • Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections to ensure safe working conditions.
  • Check gauges and visual indicators for malfunctions and inspect vehicles before and during trips.
  • Promptly report all maintenance problems to Fleet Services and/or supervision.
  • Verify unit numbers against paperwork and report discrepancies.
  • May use in-cab technology, including electronic logs.
  • May drive different schedules and work the dock based on business needs.
  • Provide professional and courteous service to customers and the public.
  • Attend work regularly.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by management.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 21 years of age per FMCSA regulations.
  • 1 year of driving experience required.
  • Possess a valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License.
  • Registered with the FMCSA Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse.
  • Reside within 75 miles of the domiciled Service Center and/or work assignment.
  • HazMat, Tanker, and Doubles endorsements required (LCV requirement may apply).
  • Able to drive a tractor trailer for a period conforming to FMCSA requirements.
  • Stable employment history preferred.
  • Capable of dropping/hooking and coupling trailers, including cranking landing gear and maneuvering a trailer dolly.
  • Provide an acceptable MVR.
  • Familiar with state motor vehicle laws and FMCSA rules and regulations.
  • Pass a FMCSA required medical exam.
  • Pass a road test.
  • Able to meet FMCSA requirements for speaking and reading English.
  • Able to lift approximately 70 lbs., or more if required.
  • Able to drive all routes and in all types of terrain, including mountains, steep inclines, curvy highways, desert areas, bridges, and tunnels.
  • Able to drive in a wide range of environmental conditions, including rain, wind, snow, freezing temperatures, and hot weather.
  • Able to operate all safety and operational functions of equipment, including chaining tires and driving manual/automatic transmission vehicles.
  • Able to comply with all company policies, rules, procedures, and Code of Conduct.
  • Able to interact well with others.
  • Able to work independently or in a team setting.
  • Able to work under tight time constraints in a high volume environment with multiple priorities.
  • Responds well to questions; reads, interprets, and complies with written information and documents with high comprehension and concentration.
  • Pass a pre-employment drug screen, random drug/alcohol tests, and subject to a criminal history background check.
  • Authorized to work in the United States.
