About the Role

The Academic Support Coordinator is a part-time position supporting the Learning Strategies Office and other academic support programs, providing academic assistance in individual and small group settings.

Responsibilities

  • Schedule and assign students to supported study groups, working closely with adult and peer tutors.
  • Train peer tutors, assign tutor pairs, and support all students in the peer tutoring program.
  • Communicate with students, teachers, and the Learning Strategies department regarding peer tutoring and supported study groups.
  • Provide small group and one-on-one math and science tutoring during lunch for 9th and 10th graders.
  • Review math and science material for 9th and 10th grade students, following courses in Schoology.
  • Communicate with teachers about student support needs and progress.
  • Communicate with grade deans about necessary schedule changes.
  • Update students’ Learning Plans and communicate new information with teachers.
  • Maintain up-to-date resources and tools on the Learning Strategies student-facing website.
  • Ensure faculty are informed about the process to request support for students.
  • Scan/OCR readers at the beginning of the term and share with students.
  • Review draft interim/CRs and provide teacher feedback for select students with Learning Plans.
  • Read select incoming admissions files.
  • Proctor after-school testing for 3 days per week.
  • Compile and analyze longitudinal data of students accessing supports in collaboration with the Dean of Curriculum and Analytics.
  • Interview select students with Learning Plans or who have accessed Supported Study Groups to incorporate qualitative data.
  • Research and select AI strategies relevant for students with Learning Plans.
  • Communicate AI strategies to students, add them to Learning Plans, and train students as needed.
  • Email 12th graders with Learning Plans prior to senior year, providing plans and seeking updates.
  • Update 12th grade Learning Plan strategies/challenges based on student feedback.
  • Support the transition to college for seniors with Learning Plans by connecting them with college-level learning supports.

Requirements

  • Teaching or other leadership experience in a middle or secondary school setting.
  • Knowledge of high school level Math (Algebra, Geometry & Trig) and Science (Biology and Chemistry).
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Authentic consonance with the stated core values of the Urban School.
  • Enjoys working with teenagers.

Skills

  • Spanish language fluency is a plus.
