About the Role
The Relief Driver is responsible for the safe transportation of agency clients and volunteers in accordance with Ontario Regulations, while upholding the mission, vision, and values of the organization.
Responsibilities
- Load and unload meals on wheels bags from the van
- Pick up food from designated food source locations
- Deliver multiple meals on wheels routes
- Provide support and direction to volunteers during deliveries
- Re-deliver meals to clients as needed
- Transport clients between their homes and designated drop-off points
- Assist clients with vehicle entry and exit and ensure seatbelt usage
- Report concerns regarding client well-being
- Complete daily vehicle check-list forms
- Ensure vehicles are parked, cleaned, and fueled at the end of each shift
- Adhere to agency policies and procedures
- Report vehicle maintenance issues to the supervisor
- Operate agency vehicles safely, including performing circle checks
- Collaborate with department staff and volunteers
- Participate in department and agency meetings and events
- Meet regularly with the manager to discuss program effectiveness
Requirements
- Valid Class G driver’s license
- Personal driver’s insurance
- Minimum 25 years of age
- Clean and recent driver’s abstract
- Knowledge of downtown city streets
- Sensitive to the needs of seniors and individuals with disabilities
- Ability to work evenings and weekends
- Satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Criminal Records check
- Legally qualified to work in Canada
