About the Role

This role involves underwriting cases across the allocated geographical remit of the portfolio, following agreed processes and within risk appetite to achieve business development and retention targets. The majority of time will be spent delivering underwriting decisions, contributing to business development activities, and liaising with customers, brokers, network partners, and third parties.

Responsibilities

• Review allocated cases and deliver underwriting decisions, following agreed processes at the designated authority level, to secure profitable business within the agreed risk appetite.
• Act as a referral point for junior staff and contribute to peer review processes to support an effective control environment.
• Provide advice and guidance on the production of new policy wordings or reviews of existing policy wordings.
• Identify, recommend, and lead or contribute to marketing activities and product development initiatives.
• Travel within allocated geographical remit as required.
• Proactively identify and pursue up-selling and cross-selling opportunities to maximize profitable revenue potential.
• Manage customer interactions efficiently, courteously, and in a timely manner to deliver high standards of customer satisfaction.
• Provide expert advice, guidance, and coaching to less qualified and/or experienced colleagues.
• Seek input from the Actuarial Department to price specific accounts when appropriate.
• Liaise with the Claims Department on specific claims activity and overall market concerns.
• Stay current with major industry issues and developments.
• Help maintain low levels of aged debt through accurate record keeping and liaising with the Accounts Receivable team.
• Carry out regular and ad hoc reporting as required.
• Perform other duties as may be assigned.

Requirements

• 5-10 years of experience underwriting major Property accounts in the London market.
• Strong marketing, negotiation, and presentation skills.
• Excellent knowledge and understanding of standard market policy and endorsement wordings.
• Organization skills and the ability to prioritize work.
• Excellent interpersonal skills, analytical skills, and the ability to work within a team.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Excellent MS Office skills, particularly Excel.
