About the Role

This role is for an experienced lawyer who will help deliver the knowledge and innovation/AI strategy for the Group and Firm. The individual will shape and influence policy, implement projects to meet the Group’s knowledge needs, focusing on precedents (including AI use), brand recognition, and staying at the forefront of new tax developments. The role is both inward and outward facing, requiring the gravitas to liaise with public bodies such as HMRC and the Treasury. A core part of the strategy is to enhance the Group’s business development capacity.

Responsibilities

  • Be a source of legal, market, and practical expertise for all members of the Group and Firm.
  • Provide direct support for client matters where appropriate.
  • Identify practice-related training needs of the Group.
  • Organize, design, and deliver Group training, including seminars, workshops, and offsite training.
  • Develop global training programs as required by partners.
  • Participate in Firmwide training programs, including core training and induction courses.
  • Mentor trainees and associates.
  • Monitor and inform the Group and Professional Support team about important developments in the law or business environment.
  • Identify trends in the law or business environment, particularly new developments relevant to the Group.
  • Help the Group develop new legal products, identify possible new services, and suggest innovative ways to deliver services more efficiently.
  • Prepare regular current awareness newsletters for the Group and the Firm’s clients.
  • Work with the Research & Market Intelligence team to implement processes for practice-related current awareness and alerts.
  • Author and publish research on legal developments or new areas of law relevant to the Group.
  • Participate in industry events relevant to the Group to raise the Firm’s profile.
  • Identify opportunities to develop business from new and existing clients through writing articles, briefing notes, and preparing/delivering client training.
  • Draft standard forms and develop accompanying notes.
  • Ensure standard forms are updated to reflect changes in law, regulation, market standards, and best practice.
  • Conduct matter debriefs for precedent collection and deal or market analysis.
  • Create practice notes and other useful know-how.
  • Implement procedures for capturing, filtering, storing, accessing, and disseminating know-how within the Group.
  • Publish material on the Firm’s intranet and KM systems.
  • Encourage fee-earners to use KM systems and other resources.
  • Champion the rollout of new innovation/AI or knowledge systems to the Group.
  • Contribute to global innovation and knowledge programs and projects.
  • Assist lawyers with queries.
  • Attend regular global, regional, and practice meetings of the Professional Support team.
  • Attend external training and conferences to stay updated on relevant developments.

Requirements

  • Sound legal experience in general tax and ECB in a large law firm, including experience and market knowledge.
  • At least six related years’ post qualification experience.
  • At least six England and Wales qualified years’ post qualification experience.
