About the Role

As a Microsoft Data Center IT Operations Manager (ITOM), you lead and manage a team of individual contributors, overseeing data center site services and logistics. This role offers an opportunity to lead highly effective teams within Microsoft's Cloud Operations & Innovation (CO+I) organization, which powers core infrastructure for services like Bing, Office 365, Xbox, OneDrive, and Microsoft Azure. CO+I focuses on employee development with trainings, growth opportunities, and professional certifications. Our global infrastructure includes over 200 Data Centers in 32 countries, supporting over 1 billion customers and 20 million businesses. We prioritize environmental sustainability and optimization in our data center design and operations, aligning with Microsoft's mission to empower every person and organization on the planet to achieve more.

Responsibilities

  • Empower a culture of safety, security, and compliance in all aspects of datacenter activities.
  • Lead and manage a team of high-performing individual contributors and their ongoing talent development.
  • Manage and oversee datacenter site services, logistics, and deployment.
  • Collaborate and coordinate with multiple internal business groups to ensure the successful delivery of service levels.
  • Analyze production operations and initiate corrective actions to ensure operational stability.
  • Initiate and establish quality standards for the datacenter teams and manage those initiatives through to completion.
  • Learn, live, and coach the One Microsoft culture and values.
  • Lead through change by bringing clarity, generating energy, and delivering success.

Requirements

  • High School Qualification or equivalent AND 3+ years of mission-critical service management (e.g., providing IT services, manufacturing, warehouse, retail, military, or managing physical operations in an IT and/or critical environment infrastructure) OR equivalent experience.
  • 3+ years’ experience managing physical operations in an IT and/or Critical Environment infrastructure.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, non-business hours, or other scenarios required by rhythm of the business.
  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements.
  • Must pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
  • Must have the ability to obtain Reliability Status screening from the Government of Canada.
  • To obtain the requisite clearance, applicants must have five (5) years of continuous Canadian residency and must not have lived or worked outside of Canada for more than six (6) months during that time unless Microsoft is satisfied that the requisite clearance can nevertheless be obtained within required timelines.

Skills

  • Bachelor's or Technical College Degree in Computer Science, Math, Telecommunications, Electrical/Mechanical Engineering, Supply Chain Management or related field AND 8+ years experience in critical environment infrastructures (e.g., UPS, Generator, AHU), or working in physical IT infrastructures (e.g., Servers, SANs, Networking, Capacity, DC Rack/Enclosures, structured cabling) OR High School Qualification or equivalent AND 10+ years experience in critical environment infrastructures (e.g., UPS, Generator, AHU), or working in physical IT infrastructures (e.g., Servers, SANs, Networking, Capacity, DC Rack/Enclosures, structured cabling) OR equivalent experience
  • 1+ year(s) people management experience.
  • Enterprise-level experience managing large-scale and complex projects/programs.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of audit and compliance requirements in a large global enterprise.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills, analytical capabilities, data analysis, and attention to detail.
  • Applicable certifications: APICS/Inventory Control, CompTIA, Microsoft, Network Certifications, CCNA Certifications, ITIL v3 Foundation, Microsoft Operations Framework (MOF) Certifications, Leadership Development Certifications, PMP, CDCMP
