About the Role
This position is for an Accounting Lead who will be central to our accounting functions. Beyond daily and monthly bookkeeping, key responsibilities include accelerating and improving the accuracy of monthly, quarterly, and annual closings, establishing standalone and consolidated accounting systems, preparing financial statements and disclosure documents, and leading efforts related to auditors, lead underwriters during the IPO preparation phase, and internal controls (J-SOX). We expect you to enhance the quality of closings, disclosures, and internal controls in collaboration with auditors, lead underwriters, and tax advisors, with an eye toward the IPO preparation phase.
Responsibilities
- Lead the consolidation of monthly, quarterly, and annual closings, promoting faster closings (design and operation of closing schedules) and improved accuracy.
- Establish and consistently manage standalone and consolidated accounting systems (including preparation of consolidated packages, group companies, and overseas subsidiaries).
- Prepare financial statements, annual securities reports, and various disclosure documents in collaboration with auditors.
- Lead responses to accounting and internal control audits by external auditors (preparing materials, on-site audits, and issue resolution).
- Prepare materials (Part I / Explanations) and handle inquiries for the lead underwriter's underwriting and listing examinations.
- Promote the documentation (business descriptions, flowcharts, RCM) and operational assessment of internal controls (J-SOX) in collaboration with relevant departments.
- Lead the development and review of accounting policies (revenue recognition, fixed assets, accounting for stock options/equity compensation, etc.) and resolve accounting issues.
- Manage monthly budget vs. actuals, cash flow, and cash flow forecasting, and prepare reports for management.
- Coordinate with external tax advisors on tax matters (corporate tax, consumption tax filings, tax effect accounting).
- Oversee the operational design of accounting systems (freee), expense reporting, and workflow systems (Bakuraku), and handle requests from business units.
- Handle the creation and review of financial documents in English, and manage communications with overseas subsidiaries, overseas shareholders, and investors.
- Maintain accounting regulations and various manuals, accumulate knowledge, and contribute to the development of management systems with future listing in mind.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent knowledge/experience.
- Experience in accounting/finance at a business company or at an auditing firm, with practical experience in month-end and year-end closing consolidation. Qualifications such as CPA are not necessarily required.
- Practical skills: Experience as the primary person in charge of standalone closing consolidation, with proactive involvement in accelerating closings and improving accuracy.
- Business-level Japanese language proficiency (written and verbal communication sufficient for interactions with management, auditors, and lead underwriters).
- Core competencies: Attention to detail, ability to organize issues, ability to reach consensus with multiple stakeholders, adaptability to operational tasks using SaaS (freee, Slack, etc.).
