About the Role

Access Alliance Multicultural Health and Community Services is a Community Health Centre focused on improving health outcomes for vulnerable immigrants, refugees, and their communities by facilitating access to services and addressing systemic inequities. This role contributes to our COVID-19 response efforts.

Responsibilities

• Provide assistance and support to the coordination of programs, services and events.
• Conduct outreach to the community, provide information, and promote programs and activities.
• Support administrative aspects of programs, including registrations, permission forms, attendance, report writing, evaluations, and program documentation.
• Collaborate with team members and other departments to provide integrated programming.
• Offer non-judgmental, inclusive support to program participants.
• Perform screening duties at the front entrance, including asking clients health questions prior to entry while adhering to PPE guidelines.
• Undertake other relevant duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Must be between 15-30 years of age at the beginning of the employment period.
• Must be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment.
• Must have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment.
• Must be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.
• Complete COVID-19 vaccination is mandatory.
• A criminal background check (Vulnerable sector) is a requirement for this position.
• Must be able to work evenings and weekends as required.
• Must be able to carry up to 20 lbs; indicate any physical limitations/requirements.

Skills

• Interest in working in community-based organizations.
• Experience in gardening, food service, program planning, or cycling is an asset for Community Worker positions.
• Understanding of social determinants of health and issues faced by vulnerable communities.
• Familiarity with Taylor Massey and Oakridge (east end) and Syme-Woolner (west end) neighbourhoods is an asset.
• Commitment to work from an integrated anti-oppression framework.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to plan and organize activities.
• Ability to take initiative and work independently.
• Computer proficiency, including word processing, internet, spreadsheets, MS Office, Publisher, and PowerPoint.
• Ability to think innovatively to promote programs utilizing Canva or other graphic design tools is an asset.
• A second language is an asset.
• Punctual, reliable, proactive communicator.

• Short Term Summer Contract (8 weeks)

Experience Level

• Experience working with seniors, in social work and community development is an asset.

Salary/Compensations

• $18.60 per hour
