About the Role
Lightspeed is seeking a Senior Product Designer to join our POS (Point of Sale) squad within the Hospitality design team in Berlin. This role focuses on designing the native iOS experience for ordering, payments, and table management, aiming to make every shift smoother for hospitality staff. The designer will lead complex, time-sensitive design work and mentor other designers.
Responsibilities
- Lead complex and time-sensitive design initiatives on the POS squad end-to-end with minimal supervision.
- Transform ambiguous operational problems into specific, usable product features.
- Facilitate design reviews and working sessions to advance the team.
- Explore and integrate emerging tools, including AI, to enhance design processes and shipped experiences.
- Apply and evolve the design system with rigor, setting a standard for the squad.
- Ensure consistency and quality across platforms, particularly for the POS on iOS.
- Gain insights from venue visits, service observations, and operator discussions.
- Translate qualitative and quantitative research into tangible product decisions.
- Build strong relationships with cross-functional partners and advocate for the user.
- Act as a critique partner for other designers, raising the quality bar through feedback.
- Drive consensus among product management, engineering, and design when disagreements arise.
- Serve as a positive role model and culture carrier within the studio.
- Advocate for design across the broader Lightspeed organization.
- Contribute to the long-term POS product vision by identifying opportunities for reinvention.
Requirements
- At least 5 years of practical, in-house product, UX/UI design experience.
- Mastery in at least one area: interaction design, systems thinking, native platform craft, or research integration.
- Solid experience designing native iOS (or comparable native mobile) applications.
- Understanding of platform conventions, navigation paradigms, gesture and touch patterns, and mobile device constraints.
- Demonstrated ability to drive consensus when stakeholders disagree.
- Excellent communication skills for explaining design decisions with focus and brevity.
- Solid visual design skills and attention to detail.
- Curiosity to evolve design process by leveraging AI tools.
- Acute self-awareness and deep empathy for customers and team goals.
- Ability to consider product strategy and vision.
- Experience with tools such as Figma, Google Suite, JIRA, and other prototyping tools.
- Fluency in written and spoken English.
- Spoken German skills are considered a plus.
- Genuine curiosity about or direct experience with hospitality service workflows.
- Experience mentoring more junior designers, formally or informally.
