About the Role
Boarding Advisors at The Bishop Strachan School empower boarders in Grades 8 to 12 within a supportive campus environment. This role focuses on mentoring students, building relationships with families and staff, and ensuring a safe and nurturing living experience.
Responsibilities
- Support the boarding program through office shifts, safety and attendance rounds, supervision of meals and activities, running daily programming, and supporting student committees and events.
- Advise, support, mentor, and empower assigned boarders, building relationships with their parents, teachers, and counselors.
- Oversee meals, bedtimes, and room tidiness within the Boarding house, including lock-up procedures and alarm operation.
- Monitor and support students’ academic, social, physical, and emotional progress in a sensitive and non-discriminatory manner.
- Proactively communicate with parents and guardians to build supportive partnerships.
- Ensure students and staff are familiar with the Boarding Code of Conduct and handle discipline, health issues, and other student concerns.
Requirements
- Relevant experience working with adolescents, including living/working in a residential or camping environment.
- University degree/college diploma in a related discipline (e.g., Child and Youth Studies, Education, Social Work).
- Understanding of adolescent developmental stages and their health and wellness needs.
- Current Standard First Aid, CPR, Red Cross/LSS, and NLS certifications are an asset.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal skills, judgment, and decision-making ability.
