About the Role
Assisting in the production and delivery of healthy meals to clients at St. Michael’s Homes to aid in their recovery from addictions. This role involves supporting all food services activities, including inventory, receiving, storage, cooking, disposal, and cleaning, while adhering to food safety standards.
Responsibilities
- Assists the Food Services Coordinator in the execution of duties
- Assists in menu planning
- Assists with weekly inventory, ordering and receiving of foodstuffs and dry goods for all sites
- Cooking, portioning, wrapping, labelling, and transporting meals and dry goods to other sites
- Performs thorough daily cleaning
- Models and articulates best practices in Food Services
- Provides occasional supervision of volunteers
- Performs other duties as required
Requirements
- Minimum G2 driver’s license with clean driver’s abstract to drive company van
- Two years’ experience in restaurant, catering or institutional cooking
- Possess basic computer skills, specifically in Microsoft 365 environment
- Awareness and appreciation of client needs specific to the addictions and mental health field
- Completion of standard staff training modules
- Food Handler Certification
- Experience batch cooking for large groups
- Ability to cook without a recipe to incorporate donated ingredients
- Ability to make substitutions for standard allergies and cultural/religious avoidances
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs (23 kg)
- Comfortable working in a transitional housing environment and engaging with clients
- Ability to attend scheduled meetings and participate in team discussions
