About the Role
This co-op opportunity with Philips offers paid, hands-on experience at our Latham site for individuals pursuing undergraduate or graduate degrees. You will gain meaningful experience working for a HealthTech company, assisting in the design, assembly, and testing of cryogenic systems and superconducting magnets, troubleshooting mechanical issues, collaborating on design solutions, conducting experiments, and maintaining lab equipment.
Responsibilities
- Assist in the design, assembly, and testing of cryogenic systems and superconducting magnets.
- Troubleshoot and resolve mechanical issues related to cryogenic and superconducting systems.
- Collaborate with engineers and scientists to develop and implement design solutions.
- Conduct experiments and tests to evaluate the performance and reliability of prototypes.
- Maintain and calibrate lab equipment to ensure accurate and reliable measurements.
Requirements
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or other engineering.
- Hands-on experience in a laboratory setting, setting up and executing test protocols.
- Knowledge of safety protocols and standards in a lab environment.
- Experience with 3D modeling and other engineering tools.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Understanding of mechanical systems and experience in designing mechanical assemblies.
- Hands-on building skills are preferred.
- Understanding of thermal systems, heat transfer, cryogenics, or vacuum systems.
- Understanding of basic circuits and experience developing circuits or programming controllers to solve an engineering problem.
- Experience working with teams to solve complex engineering problems.
- Good attention to detail on documentation and experience writing technical documents.
- Must be able to successfully perform the minimum Physical, Cognitive and Environmental job requirements with or without accommodation.
