About the Role
Quarterback Transportation is seeking a hands-on Controller to lead the accounting department, partner with HR and IT, and work directly with the CEO and executive team to enhance financial reporting, internal controls, and scalable business processes.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with the executive team on financial reporting, planning, and decision-making.
- Manage month-end and year-end closing processes to deliver accurate financial statements.
- Prepare monthly reporting packages including P&L, balance sheets, and variance analysis.
- Generate monthly reporting packages for banking requirements.
- Oversee daily accounting operations including accounts payable and accounts receivable.
- Execute bi-monthly payroll and maintain accurate reconciliations and controls.
- Produce monthly commission reports and supporting documentation.
- Provide actionable insights to support budgeting and forecasting.
- Strengthen internal controls, policies, and documentation while coordinating audit and tax support.
- Serve as the primary liaison for external accountants and manage year-end review schedules.
- Manage accounting and reporting for Canadian and U.S. entities and multiple holding companies.
- Lead and mentor a team of seven direct reports.
- Partner with HR to develop and administer compensation and commission plans.
Requirements
- CPA designation or equivalent experience.
- 5–10+ years of progressive accounting or finance experience.
- Proven background in financial close, reporting, reconciliations, and internal controls.
- Experience with multi-entity structures across Canada and the U.S.
- Experience with payroll, commission reporting, and compensation administration.
- Experience with Microsoft Dynamics GP (Great Plains).
- Experience in the freight brokerage industry.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
- Strong communication skills and a collaborative leadership style.
