About the Role
We are looking for an Assistant Underwriting Portfolio Analyst to join our team in London. In this role, you will be working with data sets and using a suite of dashboards to generate regular and ad-hoc reports. We are keen to hear from candidates with an interest in AI and emerging technology, a STEM background, early careers apprenticeship experience, or strong Maths A-level results are preferred but not a pre-requisite for the role. A genuine enthusiasm for learning and developing is just as important to us as technical experience. We are looking for individuals who are keen to build a career in insurance.
Responsibilities
- Assist in the delivery of quarterly and annual review packs across all planning lines, ensuring consistent formatting, accurate data, and clear insight.
- Track actions and support underwriters through the review process, highlighting emerging trends.
- Support portfolio deep dives by joining meetings with underwriters to understand their book and working alongside other analysts.
- Bring together various data sources, sense-check findings with other stakeholders, and help deliver final PowerPoint packs.
- Contribute to monitoring execution against agreed strategy and collaborate with operations to embed any required changes into Travelers' systems.
- Support senior Analysts in the team and develop strong working relationships with underwriters, actuaries, operations, and distribution teams.
- Support planning line managers and portfolio leads with performance management activity, helping to coordinate competing priorities and keep stakeholders informed on timelines.
- Help provide the regular management information the business relies on, bridging gaps while automated reporting is developed.
- Support the transition of ongoing reporting responsibilities to business intelligence, helping to validate new outputs and improve existing ones.
- Contribute to one-off requests from underwriters and the underwriting office, producing accurate, evidence-based conclusions.
- Analyse external data and help apply it to Travelers' strategy.
- Bring together various datasets into clean, easy-to-use databases, assessing their usefulness and accuracy.
- Use AI tools to streamline manual tasks where appropriate.
- Carry out other duties as needed.
Requirements
- A STEM degree (or equivalent) with a strong foundation in analytical thinking.
- A strong Maths A-level is equally valued.
- May be coming from an early careers apprenticeship and looking to build a long-term career in insurance.
- Excellent communication and analytical skills, with strong numeracy and a confident grasp of Excel and PowerPoint.
- Some experience with a coding language such as SQL or python.
- A genuine interest in AI and how emerging technology can enhance data analysis.
- Eagerness to learn and develop in this space.
