About the Role

Join Barclays Canada as an Investment Bank Diversified Industries, Associate, where you advise clients on a wide range of strategic transactions. You will have the opportunity to conduct industry research, evaluate key trends and opportunities. The Diversified Industries Group and Mergers & Acquisitions develop financial models, valuations and manages the execution of transactions. You will prepare and deliver presentations to clients and senior leadership, while nurturing and building strong relationships with other industry professionals.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with corporate clients by understanding their business, financial goals, and industry trends.
  • Generate ideas and identify opportunities that expand the bank's client base and generate new business.
  • Perform in-depth financial analysis and due diligence on client companies to assess their financial health and valuation.
  • Collaborate with legal and compliance teams to review, draft, and maintain legal documentation required for transactions.
  • Collaborate with Capital Markets, Sales and Trading, Research, and Risk Management teams to provide comprehensive client solutions.
  • Champion Energy Transition and Sustainability by engaging with clients on their climate, transition strategies, and sustainable finance opportunities.
  • Advise and influence decision-making, contribute to policy development, and take responsibility for operational effectiveness.
  • Lead a team performing complex tasks, using well-developed professional knowledge and skills.
  • Set objectives, coach employees, appraise performance, and determine reward outcomes.
  • Lead collaborative assignments and guide team members through structured assignments.
  • Identify the need for inclusion of other areas of specialization to complete assignments.
  • Identify new directions for assignments and/or projects, using cross-functional methodologies or practices.
  • Consult on complex issues and provide advice to People Leaders to support the resolution of escalated issues.
  • Identify ways to mitigate risk and develop new policies/procedures to support the control and governance agenda.
  • Take ownership for managing risk and strengthening controls.
  • Perform work closely related to other areas, understanding how areas coordinate and contribute to organizational objectives.
  • Collaborate with other business-aligned support areas to stay updated on business activity and strategy.
  • Engage in complex analysis of data from multiple sources to solve problems creatively and effectively.
  • Communicate complex information, including sensitive or difficult-to-communicate content.
  • Influence or convince stakeholders to achieve outcomes.
  • Conduct industry research.
  • Evaluate key trends and opportunities.
  • Develop financial models and valuations.

Requirements

  • Previous relevant experience as well as deep understanding of the DIG sector or M&A experience.
  • Proven track record of executing transactions, client management, and demonstrated leadership ability in guiding and training junior team members.
  • High proficiency in Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Experience in finance or related field.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Experience originating deals in the DIG or M&A space, identifying potential clients and/or opportunities.
  • Previous stakeholder management experience.
  • Exposure to conferences and industry events.
