About the Role
Bill Me Later, Inc., a subsidiary of PayPal, Inc., is seeking a Manager, Software Engineering to directly manage software development projects and execution through individual contributors. This role involves leading project teams across platforms or groups, implementing processes for strong operational hygiene, and delivering impactful projects with quality and timeliness. The position requires strong tactical ability in managing a scrum team's roadmap and effectively communicating technical issues to non-technical audiences.
Responsibilities
- Directly manage software development projects (including program management) and execution through individual contributors.
- Lead project teams across platforms or groups.
- Implement processes to drive strong operational hygiene for all components and systems within group.
- Deliver projects, including quality and timeliness, that impact domain.
- Manage the roadmap for a scrum team responsible for technical issues of diverse scope.
- Communicate technical issues competently to non-technical audiences.
- Analyze multiple sources of information and identify and resolve complex technical, operational, and organizational problems relating to software development.
- Collaborate with direct team, managers in org, and stakeholders such as Product Owners & PMO.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree, or foreign equivalent, in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a closely related field plus 8 years of progressively responsible experience in the job offered or a related occupation.
- Professional software engineering experience with large-scale applications (3 years).
- Technical leadership or team management experience (1 year).
- Experience with Object-Oriented Design.
- Experience with at least one major programming language, such as Java, C++, Python, JavaScript, Kotlin, or Swift.
- Experience with software development best practices including version control (Git), code review, testing, and Agile methodologies.
- Experience with either mobile application development (iOS or Android) or backend service development and system architecture.
- Experience designing software systems, evaluating technical tradeoffs, and making architectural decisions.
- Experience communicating technical information to non-technical stakeholders and leading cross-functional teams.
- Experience with Cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure).
- Experience with Database design (SQL).
- Experience with Fintech, payments, or financial services technology and security/compliance concepts.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship.
