About the Role

Equinix is seeking an experienced Controls Engineer to operate, manage, maintain, and repair critical and non-critical power systems, HVAC, BMS, plumbing, fire control & suppression, and all site services within a mission-critical data center environment. This role involves working across engineering disciplines and contributing to controls strategies, with opportunities for professional development and autonomy.

Responsibilities

  • Completes all maintenance protocols, plans, and activities on time and accurately.
  • Actions, triages, or escalates site activity related to building automation systems (BAS) and controls.
  • Actively contributes to controls strategies.
  • Works closely with controls vendors to investigate and resolve issues.
  • Plans and implements logic changes to improve site PUE.
  • Monitors site BMS, SCADA, and control systems and performs routine maintenance.
  • Investigates and troubleshoots alarms and issues with site systems.
  • Manages and works with specialist vendors for site systems.
  • Assists colleagues with control-related issues, investigations, and works on site.
  • Collaborates with the Controls Engineering team to ensure strategy implementation.
  • Takes a lead role on site-based Controls related activity, including project work and commissioning.
  • Operates, programs, and configures complex Controls systems.
  • Manages and oversees specialist vendors for major works and maintenance.
  • Performs minor changes to mechanical, electrical, and special systems if necessary.
  • Participates in an on-call roster for incident response outside of regular working hours.
  • Oversees plumbing and fire suppression systems for vendor activities.
  • Coordinates and oversees vendor work to ensure adherence to Equinix's requirements.
  • Creates engineering scripts and undertakes safe switching practices.
  • Ensures compliance with Equinix safety standards and quality procedures.
  • Reviews processes, procedures, and systems, communicating deviations and proposed changes.

Requirements

  • Engineering Degree or Electrical/Mechanical Trade Certified.
  • Expert understanding of varied Controls systems in a mission-critical environment.
  • Willingness and ability to adapt to new environments and critical infrastructure.
  • Proficiency in troubleshooting and repairing mechanical and electrical systems.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work under pressure.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work autonomously when required and take ownership of tasks.
  • Desire to work across multiple sites when required.
