About the Role

FOX 7 Austin is seeking an overnight producer for its Morning Show, responsible for the development, preparation, and production of content for early-morning newscasts. This role is critical in shaping the day's first newscast by identifying breaking news, developing stories, and preparing engaging content for viewers. The ideal candidate is creative, energetic, well-informed, and willing to take chances.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to editorial decision-making for overnight and early-morning newscasts.
  • Develop, pitch, and execute story ideas relevant to the morning show and viewer needs.
  • Monitor news sources to identify breaking or developing stories.
  • Write and manage content for newscasts, updates, and special coverage.
  • Prepare show rundowns, scripts, teases, and transitions.
  • Coordinate with newsroom staff for overnight and early-morning coverage.
  • Ensure compliance with legal, ethical, and regulatory standards.
  • Create and approve scripts for broadcast, digital, and social platforms.
  • Build graphics and supers to support storytelling.
  • Provide content for web and social media platforms.
  • Assist in planning and producing live and/or taped coverage.
  • Meet all overnight and early-morning deadlines while maintaining accuracy.
  • Participate in editorial meetings and provide a clear handoff to incoming staff.
  • Communicate with colleagues at other Fox O&O stations regarding content sharing.
  • Operate newsroom systems and equipment.
  • Maintain regular attendance and reliability during overnight hours.
  • Comply with all station policies.

Requirements

  • Minimum of three years equivalent experience preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) from an accredited four-year college or university required.
  • Exceptional writing and editorial judgment.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills, particularly during breaking news.
  • High level of initiative and self-motivation.
  • Positive attitude and adaptability during overnight hours.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Team-oriented mindset with strong communication skills.
  • Integrity and commitment to journalistic standards.
  • Ability to work independently while maintaining strong communication with the newsroom team.
  • Attend and participate in scheduled meetings as required.
