About the Role
As a Software Engineer on the Data Operations team, you will shape the architecture and technical strategy of the data platform, ensuring scalability, security, and efficiency. You will design and lead the implementation of robust systems that handle large volumes of data, supporting both product features and data-driven decision-making.
Responsibilities
- Architect and lead the development of large-scale systems for data pipelines and data lakes handling billions of daily events.
- Design and implement solutions for data availability, security, and scalability across real-time and batch processing.
- Make high-level architectural decisions regarding system design, technology choices, and platform evolution.
- Collaborate with product, data, back-end, and ML teams to build tools and frameworks for analytics and data-driven workflows.
- Ensure the ease of use and cost-effectiveness of company-wide data infrastructure.
- Collaborate with leadership to devise the charter and technical roadmaps.
- Mentor engineers across back-end and data engineering disciplines to foster technical excellence.
Requirements
- Experience in large-scale distributed computing systems with expertise in data infrastructure provisioning and data governance.
- Experience managing live production environments, high-load systems, or data-intensive workflows with a focus on reliability.
- Expertise in SQL.
- Ability to design scalable, secure, and maintainable data models and architectures.
- Understanding of data governance and privacy regulations such as GDPR and CCPA.
- Hands-on experience with modern data storage technologies like Delta Lake, Snowflake, BigQuery, or Redshift.
- Strategic thinker capable of evaluating build-versus-buy decisions.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal guidance in fast-paced environments.
