About the Role
Texas Diabetes & Endocrinology, P.A. (TD&E) is seeking a Triage Medical Assistant (Triage I) for their South Austin office to manage patient calls and walk-ins, assess needs, and determine the best course of action within their scope of practice.
Responsibilities
- Triage patient medical needs for assigned provider(s) following established policies and procedures.
- Assist walk-in patients with medical questions and needs.
- Actively listen to patients’ medical concerns, gather information, and determine next steps based on protocols.
- Relay provider orders and instructions to patients.
- Communicate with patients via the patient portal.
- Process referrals as requested by provider.
- Assist practitioners with the initial prescription process, including specialty medications.
- Communicate with insurance or pharmacy as needed.
- Handle and approve patient’s prescription needs, including filling requests and replacements.
- Provide patients with prescription samples.
- Order labs & radiology for patients as requested by practitioner.
- Order and coordinate specialty procedures including Cortrosyn Stimulation, & OGT tests.
- Manage the pre-authorization process for specialty procedures and medications/labs billed under medical insurance.
- Provide intramuscular and subcutaneous injections.
- Complete prep work needed for patient appointments.
- Explain procedures, diagnostic tests, and lab imaging to patients.
- Chart all patient interactions in the electronic medical records (EMR) system.
- Correspond with providers and coworkers via Taskman for patient needs.
- Monitor the Order Tracking board for instructions from Providers.
- Assist providers with biopsies.
- Triage urgent/critical lab results before provider review.
- Assist with training of new staff.
- Collect and process items from assigned provider outboxes.
- Assist patients with paperwork requests and with information regarding medication and supply assistance.
- Occasionally assist with lifting patients up to 50 pounds.
- Assist with triage scanning, faxes, and mail to patients.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Requirements
- 5 years of prior Medical Assistant experience.
- Prior MA experience with Texas Diabetes & Endocrinology (2 + years).
- Bilingual in Spanish.
