About the Role

CIBC is building a Cross-Asset Derivatives service infrastructure, trading, and risk management platform for global use. This system is expanding rapidly with new functionality for additional business lines and asset classes. You will develop an understanding of Capital Markets trading and financial products, working closely with end-users, Business Analysts, Developers, and QA across global CIBC offices. You will become an expert in all equity software platforms, influencing the design, architecture, and operational effectiveness of equity application systems covering multiple asset classes. Provide technical and operational expertise to support and enhance service delivery for risk, trading, and service-based application services. Act as a key contact between users and technology teams by building stakeholder relationships.

Responsibilities

  • Be available out of hours to provide failover testing, batch and incident recovery, demonstrating a proactive approach to problem prevention.
  • Implement innovative solutions for software, data processing, monitoring, and support procedures.
  • Exercise defensive strategies to guard technology against failures and implement best practices.
  • Achieve a broad understanding of technology platforms and asset groups, conducting training sessions or providing documentation.
  • Manage all aspects of requirement analysis and delivery to global trading and sales teams, including FX, Commodity, Derivative, and Interest Rate products.
  • Take ownership of user issues, managing communications between affected groups and senior management teams, including front, middle, and back office teams.
  • Take the initiative to make quick, sensible decisions with confidence under pressure.
  • Schedule, monitor, analyze, communicate, investigate, escalate, and resolve batch job delays or failures for global downstream applications and reporting teams.

Requirements

  • Subject Matter Expert with strong numerical and analytical skills.
  • Minimum 2.1 bachelor's or master's degree in a numerical, engineering, or computer science related discipline.
  • Economics background is desirable.
  • Knowledge of approaches, tools, techniques, and roles in providing technical or business guidance.
  • Understanding of derivatives business processes (front, middle, back offices).
  • Understanding of Equity products and the trade life cycle, including risk analysis, PnL, trade execution, regulatory requirements, and maturity across multiple asset classes.
  • Provide consultation services for the xTrader application, interfaces, and batch processing.
  • Coordinate support, dev, and QA resources to deliver effective business solutions.
  • Knowledge of approaches, tools, and techniques for technical troubleshooting.
  • Build relationships with key technology and business stakeholders and be aware of their respective roles within the organization.
  • Demonstrate fluid interaction with technology platforms including database, network, hardware, software, operating systems, and typical industry tools (e.g., SQL Server, Autosys).
  • Ability to learn new concepts and technologies quickly.
  • Extensive work experience in interpersonal relationships, establishing strong working relationships with vendors, clients, and peers.
  • Previous experience supporting electronic retail distribution channels with a comprehensive understanding of the technology is an asset.
  • Knowledge of the organization's total information technology environment.
  • Knowledge of tools and techniques for effective problem-solving.
  • Knowledge of and experience with activities, tools, and techniques for converting business requirements and logical models into a technical application design.
  • Ability to express oneself and communicate verbally, including tone, style, and structure.
  • Knowledge of major tasks, deliverables, formal methodologies, and disciplines for delivering new or enhanced applications.
  • Technical skills: SQL, Unix, Windows, network, Databricks, Azure & AWS cloud, MongoDB, scripting, AI.
  • Previous experience in the derivatives and technical space is preferred.
  • Wide range of internal and external contacts including directors, senior directors and vice presidents, other technology areas, business clients, and vendors.
  • Analyze project and/or technical risk to support business recommendations.
  • Analyze business and/or client processes and practices to identify and recommend opportunities for enhancement.
  • Develop solutions or recommendations to improve processes and practices.
  • Assess work and information flows to identify and recommend appropriate solutions.
  • Provide overall solutions to complex application problems.
  • Provide advice and direction regarding technology planning and performance.
  • Provide application solutions or make technology selection decisions for undefined or changing business requirements.
  • Estimate project work effort involving new technology.
  • Make decisions regarding application solutions or technology selection with significant financial impact.
  • Must prioritize and delegate tasks to meet schedules of several concurrent projects and support tasks.
  • Required to work outside of normal working days/hours where necessary.
  • On call (pager) to provide after-hour support for escalations.
