About the Role

The Senior Manager, Medical Science Liaison (MSL) is a field-based scientific expert who supports Alexion’s medical and scientific objectives across a product's lifecycle. This role serves as a peer scientific expert communicating accurate, non-promotional science to Healthcare Practitioners (HCPs) within a geographic area, while managing relationships and identifying collaboration opportunities.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain peer-to-peer collaborations and relationships with Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs) in a relevant therapeutic area.
  • Engage in discussions with physicians on medical affairs initiatives, including publications, externally sponsored collaborations, advisory boards, and medical education opportunities.
  • Support the medical community with up-to-date medical information, disease expertise, and product information.
  • Communicate expert opinions and feedback on new data to Alexion Medical Affairs and therapeutic area franchises.
  • Provide medical and scientific input into the planning and execution of regional advisory boards.
  • Respond to unsolicited medical information requests and liaise with headquarters personnel for proper response.
  • Work with regional government affairs and managed care account teams to deliver presentations in support of patient access.
  • Understand local initiatives on disease and treatment guidelines.
  • Serve as an internal expert in a specific therapeutic area.
  • Develop an understanding of the regional landscape including specialties involved in patient care.
  • Maintain compliance with all internal and external legal and regulatory guidelines.
  • Identify and list external stakeholders for targeted activities.
  • Contribute to and implement the Field Medical Plan.
  • Explain project plans and the Field Medical Plan to relevant parties.
  • Support the Manager, MSL through work support and coaching.
  • Contribute to collaborative leadership across business units, MA teams, and departments.
  • Cooperate with MSL Manager on practices and proposals for realizing Great Place to Work.
  • Contribute to medical activities before regulatory approval of Alexion products through scientific exchange with KOLs.
  • Ensure all pre-approval activities comply with Alexion’s SOP, local laws, and regulations.

Requirements

  • Substantial industry experience (> 3-4 years).
  • Robust and current experience in relevant therapeutic areas relating to drugs in development, recently launched and marketed biologics/therapies.
  • Well-established networks and active relationships with KOLs focused on relevant therapeutic areas.
  • Experience in a MSL activities related field or rare disease is strongly preferred.
  • Excellent communication skills (oral and written).
