About the Role

As a Therapeutic Youth Worker, you will provide key support to young people aged 12 to 17 who have experienced childhood trauma, abuse, or neglect. Some may also have a disability or complex medical needs requiring specialized support, including personal care. You will be part of a dedicated team ensuring a safe, homelike environment where these young people can thrive, supporting them to learn independent life skills, develop problem-solving skills, and build positive relationships.

Responsibilities

  • Ensuring a safe, homelike environment where young people can thrive.
  • Supporting young people to learn independent life skills.
  • Developing problem-solving skills in young people.
  • Helping young people build appropriate and positive relationships with others.
  • Working a roster which regularly includes afternoon, sleepover, and weekend shifts.

Requirements

  • Hold or be actively completing a Diploma in Community Services or related field (or higher) OR hold relevant experience and complete Diploma qualification offered by LWB and willing to be employed on a permanent basis.
  • A current Provide First Aid (HLTAID011) certificate.
  • A current driver’s licence.
  • Experience supporting children and young people who have experienced childhood trauma, have a disability and/or exhibit pain-based behaviours of concern (ideally within a residential care setting).
  • An understanding of the importance of family/kinship connections to children and young people in placement.
  • Willingness to assist with activities of daily living, including personal care (if required).
  • Able to work a roster pattern that includes shifts across afternoon, overnight (including sleepover) and weekends.
  • Successful candidates will be required to clear probity checks including National Criminal History Record Check, NSW Working with Children Check and NSW Residential Care Workers Register check.
