About the Role
At SY9, our 1st Australian Hyperscale site, we have two newly created Lead Critical Facilities Engineer roles. These positions are for individual contributors with a strong technical understanding of mission-critical environments. Leadership skills are required to foster a strong team culture of site safety, engineering, and operational excellence in a team-first environment. The successful applicants will mentor, guide, and lead junior colleagues, and play a key role supporting the site supervisor.
Responsibilities
- Provide strong on-shift guidance and leadership, particularly during night hours.
- Reduce SLA risk exposure by guiding junior colleagues during all shifts.
- Support the site supervisor in building a strong and well-rounded team culture.
- Actively support training and upskilling of colleagues to increase team capability.
- Ensure sound understanding of critical infrastructure related to the site (e.g., UPS, STS, AHU, Chillers, Cooling Towers, CRAH, CRAC).
- Resolve advanced incidents and develop new procedures and techniques.
- Monitor the Building Monitoring System (BMS) and resolve alarms for complex assignments.
- Make recommendations for new procedures to the management team.
- Lead and coordinate critical infrastructure operations.
- Direct vendors on highly skilled tasks to ensure maintenance activities are carried out per standards and requirements.
- Assist with the creation of scripts for maintenance and submit them.
- Track and implement the work approval process for critical service providers.
- Inspect implementation changes/updates to technical files for plants and equipment.
- Complete complex site logs and data gathering for issuing permits, such as Maintenance Operation Protocols (MOPs) (SOPs/EOPs) and engineering scripts.
- Assist with the development, approval, and maintenance of policies and procedures (MOP/SOP/EOP).
- Identify and escalate process discrepancies to higher management.
- Identify Single Points of Failure (SPOFs) and make recommendations for new procedures.
- Act as a support team lead for operating processes and procedures.
- Support on-site staff during critical incidents.
- Confidently interpret single line diagrams (SLDs) to understand power distribution systems.
- Respond to all on-site incidents, including major failures, significant problems, and delays.
- Assist with Root Cause Analysis (RCA).
- Assist management with maintaining technical documents.
- Collaborate with others to resolve highly difficult facility incidents.
- Act as a support team lead when identifying component-level faults and provide recommendations for new procedures.
- Utilize resources outside of the department as necessary.
- Advise on inventory needs to maintain optimal stock levels of critical parts and equipment.
- Advise other team members on repairs and preventative maintenance.
- Act as a support team lead on implementing highly skilled, complex projects.
Requirements
- Trade Certified or bachelor’s degree in a related Engineering field.
- Strong leadership capability, and desire to mentor developing engineers.
- Aspirations and competency to move into supervisory, or specialist engineering positions within the business.
- Commitment to site safety and compliance.
- Availability to work in a 24/7 environment (4 on 4 off).
