About the Role

BAM UK & Ireland is seeking a Design Manager for the London Construction segment to manage the design process, ensuring technically compliant, cost-efficient, and coordinated design packages throughout pre-construction and project delivery.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the design process for pre-construction and project delivery stages.
  • Engage and manage digital and sustainability project requirements.
  • Liaise with subcontractors, design teams, and consultants to ensure compliance with DfE, school requirements, and Building Regulations.
  • Manage design information release, production, and approval of technical drawings.
  • Chair Client Engagement Meetings and design workshops.
  • Coordinate complex design packages and validate design details.
  • Provide expert technical guidance to DfE, Technical Advisors, and project teams.
  • Identify and mitigate risks while ensuring statutory and legal compliance.
  • Demonstrate technical competence across Architecture, Structures, and MEPH.
  • Assist in the selection and scoping of subcontractors for Contractor Design Portions.
  • Develop and manage the design programme to inform the TIDP and MIDP.
  • Provide regular internal and external reporting.
  • Review designs for technical completeness and buildability.
  • Develop Consultant scopes of service and the Design Responsibility Matrix.
  • Develop Value Engineering proposals with the wider team.
  • Lead the design programme.

Requirements

  • Design Management experience, ideally within the DfE/Schools sector.
  • Collaborative and 'can-do' approach.
  • Ability to listen, engage, motivate, and make confident decisions.
  • Commitment to continuous learning and knowledge sharing.
  • Understanding of design and construction processes within the DfE sector.
  • Proficiency in Revit and AutoCAD.
  • Knowledge of BIM Level 2 requirements.
  • Desire to drive improvements through digital construction.
  • Excellent communication and formal reporting skills.
  • Understanding of EDMS, specifically ACC/Autodesk Forma.
