About the Role

This founder-level role involves building, owning, and scaling a meaningful company. The Technical Co-Founder / CTO will take full ownership of MindFriend's technology, set the technical vision, lead engineering and AI work, and drive the platform to a confident, compliant global launch and beyond. The role offers a basic survival salary paired with an equity package, seeking a true partner with passion and long-term vision.

Responsibilities

Prepare technology for expansion across Sweden, the EU, the UK, and the US
Implement multi-currency payments
Manage country-specific therapist verification
Ensure localisation
Develop scalable infrastructure
Implement privacy-by-design principles
Create adaptable compliance workflows
Address EU Digital Services Act and other online platform obligations

Requirements

Helped build and launch a successful startup, marketplace, SaaS platform, health-tech platform, fintech platform, or transaction-based digital business
Direct experience taking a platform from development to launch and revenue
Direct experience managing developers and technical delivery
Direct experience building or scaling a marketplace, booking platform, SaaS product, or transactional platform
Direct experience with payment systems, checkout, payouts, refunds, and multi-currency flows
Direct experience with security, privacy, data protection, and technical, legal & governance compliance
Direct experience with AI implementation or AI product strategy
Direct experience with cloud architecture, APIs, databases, testing, QA, monitoring, and DevOps
Direct experience writing or reviewing technical documentation
Direct experience making clear build-versus-buy decisions
Direct experience working in a fast-moving startup where resources are limited and decisions matter

Skills

Strong full-stack and systems-architecture background
Hands-on with modern AI/ML in production, or ability to direct it credibly
Solid grasp of data privacy and regulated environments
GDPR essential
Familiarity with healthcare-data, telehealth, and cross-border payments rules across the EU/UK/US (strong plus)
Leadership skills to set clear direction and maintain high quality standards
Experience in mental health, healthcare, telehealth, medtech, or regulated marketplace
GDPR / UK GDPR / HIPAA technical implementation experience
AI governance, AI safety, or responsible AI implementation
Therapist, clinician, or professional-services marketplace experience
Stripe Connect or similar payment/payout infrastructure
Identity verification, licence verification, KYC/KYB, or credential-checking systems
Cross-border platform scaling
Investor due diligence and technical audit preparation

Location

Ability to travel or relocate within Europe and/or the US if required by the business

Experience Level

Founder-level technical leadership
Previous experience as a CTO, technical co-founder, VP Engineering, senior engineering lead, or founding engineer
Technical founder or early technical leader at a startup that successfully launched a platform or marketplace with real transaction volume and revenue

Salary/Compensations

Equity + monthly stipend (transitioning to full salary post-funding)
