About the Role

The Kinesiologist provides client-centered, evidence-based care to individuals in their homes and community, ensuring adherence to quality and risk management standards set by VON and the provincial regulatory body.

Responsibilities

  • Provides service consistent with the standards established by VON and the provincial regulatory body.
  • Works with clients to set and achieve functional goals.
  • Develops in-home and group-based exercise programs for senior clients, incorporating medical issues and risks.
  • Develops, coordinates, and delivers falls prevention education for the SMART program.
  • Provides complete and relevant assessments and re-assessments of the client and their environment.
  • Implements kinesiology strategies or interventions according to client needs.
  • Describes and documents kinesiology processes clearly, concisely, accurately, and appropriately.
  • Utilizes appropriate interviewing and communication skills to obtain information from the client.
  • Promotes involvement of client, family, or caregiver in determining health and service needs.
  • Analyzes and incorporates current research findings into practice.
  • Documents rationale for referrals based on relevant data and established guidelines.
  • Refers clients to other appropriate agencies, service providers, and disciplines.
  • Identifies and utilizes tools and resources for relevant work and manages these resources.
  • Works collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team and acts as a clinical resource and mentor.
  • Promotes client independence through teaching and health promotion.
  • Utilizes adult learning principles and established teaching materials to provide health teaching.
  • Shares clinical knowledge to enable informed choices for clients, families, and the community.
  • Practices in accordance with the quality and risk management framework of VON Canada and Occupational Health and Safety legislation.
  • Participates in decision making and follows up to promote continuous quality improvement.
  • Functions in accordance with VON policies, procedures, and strategic direction.
  • Collaborates with management and colleagues in evaluating own practice and maintains competence through continuing education and self-reflection.
  • Tracks and reports the result of program plans on a timely basis.
  • Works in partnership with community agencies and programs to support client needs.
  • Works towards service targets to achieve business objectives.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Promotes the goals and values of VON and their role as an integrated community care provider.
  • Promotes a safe and healthy workplace.
  • Abides by all VON policies and work practices.
  • Abides by all confidentiality and protection of personal information policies, regulations, and practices.
  • Works in collaboration with other staff in a team approach to service delivery.

Requirements

  • Post-Secondary Degree in Kinesiology or equivalent program.
  • Current registration with the College of Kinesiologists of Ontario.
  • Minimum 2 years related experience in the assessment and treatment of clients.
  • First Aid/CPR certification is required.
  • Knowledge and experience in program planning and evaluation.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the social and health care services network and community resources.
  • Must have access to a personal vehicle for client visits.
  • Possess a current driver’s license.
  • Possess proof of vehicle insurance.
  • A current and original copy of a satisfactory Criminal Records Check is required.
  • A Vulnerable Sector Search and/or Child Abuse Registry Check may be required.
  • The use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) will be required.
