About the Role

The Material Handler expedites the movement of parts and materials between production areas. This role involves preparing and coordinating schedules for material delivery to control goods flow and regulate production floor space. The Material Handler safely operates equipment such as forklifts, hoists, and cranes, adhering to all safety rules and practices.

Responsibilities

  • Keep accurate inventory records and reports
  • Assist in physical inventories and cycle counts
  • Ensure proper stock rotation
  • Key inventory adjustments in the computer
  • Unload inbound freight (trucks, trailers, containers), count products, and compare to manifest
  • Check all inbound shipments for damage, infestation, or production code dates
  • Report shortages, damages, and mis-shipments on appropriate forms
  • Sign for inbound shipments when necessary
  • Move inbound shipments safely to storage locations for efficient stacking
  • Ensure correct product number, quantity, and type (lot, batch, serial number) are picked for orders
  • Transport orders to shipping locations or delivery platforms using material handling equipment (fork trucks, cherry pickers, pallet jacks)
  • Label, stencil, tag, mark, band, bundle, wrap, over-pack, and palletize orders as required
  • Compare quantity, labeling, and address with order to ensure outgoing shipments are complete and correct
  • Assign signature for outbound shipments as necessary
  • Efficiently move product, cartons, or pallets into trailers, rail cars, or containers
  • Maintain equipment in a neat, clean, and orderly fashion
  • Operate equipment safely and efficiently
  • Comply with company standards and OSHA requirements
  • Repack or re-box cases per customer instructions
  • Repair and consolidate damaged goods
  • Operate shrink-wrap machine
  • Charge forklift battery as needed
  • Stack and separate good from bad pallets
  • Clean railcars, trailers, and truck docks/bays

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • OSHA Forklift experience
  • 0-1 year of warehouse experience with inventory
  • Familiarity with warehouse systems (WMS - SAP, RF units)
  • Ability to handle stress from deadlines and tight scheduling
  • Ability to shift priorities easily
  • Ability to use hands and feet simultaneously for repetitive movements
  • Responsible work habits
  • Availability to work shifts and occasional weekends
  • Ability to lift up to 75 pounds using proper techniques
  • Ability to follow directions with emphasis on safety
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret SOPs, coverage documents, and regulations
  • Ability to write reports and business correspondence
  • Ability to establish rapport, present information, and respond to questions from managers, clients, customers, and the public
  • Ability to meet people and listen
  • Ability to perform basic arithmetic operations (add, subtract, multiply, divide with 10s and 100s)
  • Ability to perform operations using units of American money, weight, volume, and distance
  • Ability to apply common sense to carry out detailed written or oral instructions
