About the Role
The Material Handler expedites the movement of parts and materials between production areas, managing raw materials and parts. This role involves preparing and coordinating schedules for material pulling and delivery to control goods flow and regulate production floor space. The Material Handler safely operates equipment like forklifts, hoists, and cranes, adhering to all safety rules and practices.
Responsibilities
- Keep accurate inventory records and reports
- Assist in physical inventories and cycle counts
- Ensure proper stock rotation
- Key inventory adjustments in the computer
- Unload trucks, trailers, and containers of freight
- Count products and compare to manifest
- Check all shipments for damage, infestation, or production code dates
- Report shortages, damages, and mis-shipments on appropriate forms
- Sign for inbound shipments when necessary
- Move inbound shipments safely to storage locations
- Stack merchandise efficiently
- Ensure correct product picking (number, quantity, type)
- Transport orders to shipping locations or delivery platforms using material handling equipment (fork trucks, cherry pickers, pallet jacks)
- Label, stencil, tag, mark orders
- Band, bundle, wrap, over-pack, and palletize orders
- Compare quantity, labeling, and address with order for outbound shipments
- Assign signature for outbound shipments
- Efficiently move product, cartons, or pallets into trailers, rail cars, or containers
- Maintain equipment in a neat, clean, and orderly fashion
- Operate equipment safely and efficiently
- Comply with company standards and OSHA requirements
- Repack or re-box cases per customer instructions
- Repair and consolidate damaged goods
- Operate shrink-wrap machine
- Charge forklift battery as needed
- Stack and/or separate good from bad pallets
- Clean railcars, trailers, truck docks, and bays
- Perform other assigned duties
Requirements
- OSHA Forklift experience
- Familiarity with warehouse systems (WMS - SAP, RF units)
- Ability to handle stress from deadlines and tight scheduling
- Ability to shift priorities easily
- Ability to use hands and feet simultaneously for repetitive movements
- Responsible work habits
- Ability to lift up to 75 pounds using proper techniques
- Ability to follow directions with emphasis on safety
- Exposure to an industrial warehouse environment
- Work near moving mechanical machinery with loud noise levels
- Ability to work at heights
- Exposure to changes in temperature
- Ability to drive equipment
- Potential exposure to dust, fumes, or gases
- Ability to stand and walk for the majority of the working day
- Ability to talk, hear, bend/stoop, squat, crawl, climb height, reach above shoulder height, crouch, kneel, balance, and push/pull
- Ability to use both hands for repetitive grasping and manipulating actions
- Ability to use both feet for repetitive movement operating foot controls
- Specific vision abilities: close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus

- Basic Computer Skills
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret SOPs, documents, and regulations
- Ability to write reports and business correspondence
- Ability to establish rapport, present information, and respond to questions from managers, clients, customers, and the public
- Ability to meet people and listen
- Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers
- Ability to multiply and divide with 10s and 100s
- Ability to perform mathematical operations using units of American money, weight measurement, volume, and distance
- Understanding of metric system measurements (beneficial)
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions
- Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations
