About the Role
The Small Group & Business Travel Sales Manager generates revenue by soliciting and developing Business Travel (BT), SMERF, Small Group, and Catering business. This role focuses on non-Entertainment group opportunities requiring 20 guestrooms or fewer, negotiated corporate accounts, local business travel, and stand-alone catering events. The ideal candidate is a proactive, results-driven sales professional skilled in prospecting, relationship building, and converting opportunities across guestrooms, meeting space, and catering revenue.
Responsibilities
- Develop and grow Business Travel (BT) accounts and negotiated corporate partnerships to increase midweek occupancy and hotel revenue.
- Solicit and manage non-Entertainment group opportunities requiring 20 guestrooms or fewer.
- Prospect and secure SMERF business opportunities, including social, military, educational, religious, and fraternal organizations.
- Generate stand-alone catering revenue through corporate, social, nonprofit, and community event sales.
- Drive total hotel revenue by selling guestrooms, meeting space, banquet facilities, and catering services.
- Conduct outside sales calls, networking events, site inspections, and prospecting activities to generate new business opportunities.
- Lead the sales process from inquiry through contract execution, including proposal development, presentations, negotiations, and closing.
- Partner closely with Conference Services, Operations, Revenue Management, and Food & Beverage teams to ensure successful event execution and guest satisfaction.
- Maintain an active sales pipeline and consistently achieve established room night, revenue, and catering goals.
- Identify opportunities to convert catering clients into room-producing business and room-producing clients into catering opportunities.
- Attend trade shows, community events, and industry functions to increase awareness of the hotel and generate new business leads.
- Maintain accurate account information, activity reports, contracts, and correspondence in Delphi and other hotel systems.
- Participate in daily business review meetings, weekly sales strategy discussions, and forecasting sessions.
- Stay informed on market trends, competitor activity, and customer needs to identify new revenue opportunities.
- Perform all other duties as assigned, requested, or deemed necessary by leadership.
Requirements
- Minimum 2 years of hotel sales management experience.
- Previous luxury hotel experience strongly preferred.
- Ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods throughout the hotel, meeting spaces, and client event areas.
- Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 20 pounds occasionally, including sales materials, signage, promotional items, or event collateral.
- Ability to use computers, phones, and other standard office equipment for prolonged periods.
- Ability to communicate effectively in person, over the phone, and via electronic communication.
- Ability to travel locally for client meetings, networking events, and community engagements as needed.
- Ability to work flexible schedules, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, based on business and event demands.
- Ability to move frequently between departments, guest areas, meeting spaces, and off-site locations.
- Ability to maintain professionalism and composure in a fast-paced hospitality environment.
- Work in an office environment with potential weather exposure when making sales calls.
