About the Role

The Director, HR Systems, Talent & Special Projects leads the design, delivery, optimization, and continuous improvement of core HR systems, services, and processes. This role combines strategic HR leadership with operational execution, overseeing key people systems and partnering with leaders to strengthen employee experience and support company growth.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with HR leadership to develop and execute annual HR work plans aligned with organizational priorities.
  • Monitor workplace trends, labour developments, and organizational needs to support proactive HR planning.
  • Lead the ongoing optimization and administration of key people systems including Talent Acquisition, Performance Management, and Employee Relations.
  • Identify opportunities to improve HR systems, workflows, controls, and user experience.
  • Partner with leaders across the organization to ensure HR systems are effectively implemented and utilized.
  • Lead HR process improvement initiatives related to HRIS, HR analytics and reporting, HR process automation, HR policies and procedures, and employment documentation.
  • Support the development of HR metrics, reporting, and insights that support business decision-making.
  • Partner closely with Finance and IT on HR systems integration, controls, reporting, and process effectiveness.
  • Support the effective delivery of HR services across the Corporate Office.
  • Coach and support leaders on HR systems, leadership approaches, and people processes.
  • Support workforce planning and talent-related initiatives aligned with business needs.
  • Lead and coordinate cross-functional HR initiatives and enterprise projects.
  • Develop project plans, milestones, stakeholder coordination plans, and implementation schedules.
  • Support acquisition, integration, organizational, or transformation-related initiatives as required.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive HR experience, including leadership experience within complex corporate and operational environments.
  • Minimum of 6 years of experience leading teams and operating at a managerial level within commercial organizations.
  • Experience working in industries such as Mining, Oil & Gas, Energy, Heavy Equipment, Construction, Manufacturing, or similar complex operational environments.
  • Experience leading HR systems, HR process improvement initiatives, and enterprise HR projects.
  • Experience implementing and/or optimizing HRIS platforms such as SAP SuccessFactors or similar systems.
  • Experience leading cross-functional initiatives involving HR, IT, Finance, and Operations.
  • Experience supporting organizational growth, acquisitions, integrations, or large-scale change initiatives is considered an asset.
  • Experience working within organizations that apply Systems Leadership principles, organizational effectiveness, or continuous improvement approaches is considered a strong asset.

Skills

  • Strong leadership and team development capabilities.
  • Strong project management and organizational skills, including the ability to coordinate multiple stakeholders and priorities simultaneously.
  • Strong understanding of HR systems, HR operations, and process design.
  • Ability to identify opportunities for improvement and drive practical solutions across HR processes and systems.
  • Strong collaboration and relationship-building skills across functions and leadership levels.
  • Strong communication and influencing skills.
  • High level of discretion and professionalism when handling confidential matters.
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Familiarity with tools such as Power BI and Microsoft Project is considered an asset.
  • Spanish language skills are considered an asset.

Education Level

  • Bachelor’s Degree or Master’s Degree in Human Resources, Industrial Relations, Business, Commerce, Industrial Engineering, Process Improvement, or a related discipline
  • Project Management certification or formal project management training is considered an asset
