About the Role

Under the direction of the Division Director of Government Relations, this role increases attention and resources to ending youth homelessness, focusing on expanding Larkin Street’s presence beyond San Francisco. The Senior Director develops relationships with stakeholders to support public policies and partnerships, enhancing Larkin Street’s mission fulfillment.

Responsibilities

• Support policies and partnerships to end youth homelessness.
• Build and maintain relationships with partners, advocates, elected officials, providers, and stakeholders in Bay Area counties to expand Larkin Street’s presence.
• Support program teams by building partnerships for youth employment, education, and service opportunities.
• Track and analyze housing and homelessness legislation in Greater Bay Area communities.
• Monitor and advise on State legislative priorities.
• Collaborate with the Youth Leadership team to integrate youth voices into policy and advocacy.
• Assist Division Director with policy stance research and development, including the annual Policy Brief.
• Represent Larkin Street at municipal and county commission meetings, advisory groups, and hearings.
• Coordinate Larkin Street’s internal Policy & Advocacy working group, including public comment and talking points.
• Manage letters of support for local, State, and Federal legislation and advocacy actions.
• Identify and support the Public Funding team with government funding opportunities.
• Support media relations for policy and advocacy, including managing reporter relationships, generating story ideas, writing op-eds and press releases, and placing quotes.
• Identify, lead, organize, and promote events and virtual spaces to advance youth housing efforts.
• Participate in agency management for special projects, including strategic plan and diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging work.
• Provide direct support to the Division Director and perform additional duties as required.

Experience Level

• Demonstrated leadership experience.
• Working knowledge and/or lived experience of issues facing homelessness, disconnected youth, poverty, or social justice work.
• Sufficient experience to understand the field and politics.

Education Level

• BA in Social Sciences, public policy, or related field.
• Equivalent experience in policy, advocacy, government relations, and/or homelessness/housing.

Salary/Compensations

• $95,000-$115,000
