About the Role
Spotify's Podcast Mission builds the platform powering podcasts and video podcasts for hundreds of millions of listeners. This role involves taking ownership of backend systems central to Spotify's podcast ecosystem, collaborating with engineers and cross-functional partners to design, build, and operate services for high-throughput content ingestion, content management, and internal tooling.
Responsibilities
- Design and build backend services for podcast and video podcast content ingestion, management, and administration at scale.
- Own and operate high-availability systems, ensuring reliability, observability, and maintainability in production.
- Collaborate with SREs, backend engineers, and cross-functional partners to deliver effective solutions.
- Build and maintain integrations supporting the podcast distribution API and content management systems.
- Drive operational excellence through improved monitoring, alerting, automation, and incident response.
- Contribute to platform technical direction, including evaluating AI-powered approaches for operational workflows.
Requirements
- Experience building and maintaining production backend services, focusing on reliability, scalability, and operational readiness.
- Strong proficiency in Ruby or Java, with experience designing and operating services in at least one.
- Hands-on experience with relational databases, including schema design, query optimization, and operating at scale.
- Understanding of high-availability systems: monitoring, alerting, graceful degradation, and incident response.
- Commitment to engineering best practices for well-tested, well-documented, and operable systems.
- Enjoy collaboration in a team environment and working with stakeholders to deliver practical solutions.
- Embrace AI-native development practices, using AI tools to accelerate workflow and improve code quality.
- Curiosity about applying AI-powered or agent-based approaches to improve backend, support, or operational workflows.
