About the Role

This leadership position manages teams involved in the operations and maintenance of the gas transmission and distribution system, including unplanned, emergent, and mandated program work. The role oversees personnel performing maintenance, short-cycle construction, and mandated programs. Leaders are responsible for providing safe gas services, ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory requirements, and promoting a safety culture to improve safety, reliability, and affordability for gas assets.

Responsibilities

Manage gas craft employees, ensuring compliance with corporate and regulatory requirements and company values.
Ensure timely and safe completion of gas maintenance, construction, transmission, regulatory work, and gas damage control.
Manage emergency responses and equipment maintenance, ensuring timely employee response and quality service.
Monitor compliance to standards and specifications for high-quality work.
Develop and track action plans for process or employee skill/knowledge deficiencies.
Ensure work execution within scope, schedule, and cost expectations.
Identify and implement productivity improvements and work practices to reduce operating costs while meeting compliance.
Complete and maintain all work documentation and reporting.
Communicate business goals and objectives to the work group and ensure accountability.
Develop business knowledge and technical skills of field employees, fostering teamwork.
Ensure customer needs and expectations are met through clear, professional communication.
Implement and enforce safety best practices and adherence to the safety accountability model.
Ensure full compliance with the Injury & Illness Prevention Program, facilitating weekly team meetings and training.
Oversee projects and 2nd party contracting within the area of responsibility.
Ensure mandated compliance dates and regulations are met.
Review leak investigation documents and leak survey maps for accuracy and completeness.
Ensure compliance with leak grading and L&M & Leak Survey tools and equipment as required by CPUC.
Lead root-cause investigations on PG&E at-fault dig-ins and reportable events.
Monitor the Gas Operator Qualification (OQ) Program and ensure compliance.
Maintain craft qualification records for employees (e.g., welding, plastic fusion) as required by CPUC.
Ensure accuracy of all associated paperwork and work packages.
Review all department maintenance documents for accuracy and completeness.
Complete all unplanned and emergent work.
Execute required Operations & Maintenance, leak repair, corrosion remediation, and patrolling work from the annual workplan.
Document completed work for Engineering to update Enterprise Systems (GIS).
Make minor adjustments to the workplan (<10% variation).
Communicate scope, schedule, and cost concerns to Resource Management for adjustment.
Manage pressure regulation, odorization, and instrumentation assets, informing Asset Management of future needs.
Address emergency situations as a first responder.
Forecast Emergency Work, Maintenance Work, Leak Survey, and Leak Repair.
Fulfill Incident Commander role during emergencies.
Develop internal and external workforce strategy.
Inspect and validate work.

Requirements

High-School Diploma or GED
5 years of relevant experience (utility, maintenance, construction, operations, logistics, or service planning)
CA Driver’s License
Subject to random DOT drug and alcohol testing
Ability to travel regularly to projects and visit employees in the field within the assigned geographic area
Ability to stand on and conduct emergency on-call duties and work unusual hours in emergency situations
Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration, Construction, Civil or Mechanical Engineering (Desired)
Previous leadership experience (e.g., as a crew foreman) (Desired)
Experience leading union-represented employees (Desired)
Utility experience (Desired)
Experience serving and meeting the needs of internal and/or external customers (Desired)
