About the Role

Aurora's mission is to deliver the benefits of self-driving technology safely, quickly, and broadly, creating a new era in mobility and logistics. This role seeks a technical pathfinder in Vision-Language-Action (VLA) models to identify failures in current state-of-the-art models and rebuild architecture from the ground up.

Responsibilities

  • Deep dive into VLM/VLA architectures to determine viability for specific problem sets.
  • Act as a subject matter expert and guide for the engineering team.
  • Bridge the gap between academic theory and practical, scalable applications.
  • Redesign and optimize model architectures for high-performance computing environments.

Requirements

  • PhD Graduate in AI, Computer Science, or Robotics with top-tier research lab background.
  • Deep expertise in Vision-Language Models (VLM) and Vision-Language-Action (VLA) models.
  • Hands-on experience identifying and troubleshooting failures in current architectures.
  • Ability to translate complex research papers into production-ready code.
  • Willingness to mentor team members and bridge knowledge gaps.
  • Excitement for large-scale infrastructure and supercomputing environments.
  • Ability to rethink and redesign entire model architectures.
  • Strong programming skills in Python.
  • Strong depth programming in modern C++ (preferred).
